Before this season, the jury was still out on Colorado Avalanche star Martin Necas’ standing as a playoff performer. Well, the critics can go jump in a lake after this postseason.

Even if Necas has just one goal in this postseason, his 11 points in 9 games and +9 rating are more than enough to silence anyone still questioning the 27-year-old’s ability to raise the bar in the playoffs.

That’s precisely what insider Elliotte Friedman conveyed in Wednesday’s edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast. Friedman sang Necas’ praises, touting just how well he’s played this postseason.

“The guy who I’ve really been unbelievably impressed with has been Necas. Like, there was always another level to him. He has gone to that other level. I think you could argue he’s gone to a level even above that.”

There’s no arguing with Friedman. The top Avalanche’s top line has been under heavy fire throughout the postseason. The LA Kings and Minnesota Wild did everything they could to shut them down. And the Nathan MacKinnon-Martin Necas duo has found ways to beat everybody. Despite intense defensive pressure, MacKinnon has 13 points to go with Necas’ 11. Even Gabriel Landeskog has fit in very nicely in Artturi Lehkonen’s absence.

So, you have to think that the Vegas Golden Knights will throw everything, including the kitchen sink, at MacKinnon and Necas. While they might succeed at first, it will only be a matter of time before Necas finds a way to kill the Golden Knights.

You can bet that the Golden Knights will find ways of scoring and competing with the Avalanche. But the Avalanche’s depth will prove to be too much for Vegas.

Colorado has an old beef to settle with Vegas. And this series will provide the perfect opportunity to get back at them. Vegas will try to win, but it could very well end up being Necas who ends up sending the Golden Knights packing.
