The Colorado Avalanche have officially released the jerseys they will wear for the 2020 Stadium Series game at Falcon Stadium at the Air Force Academy.

The Colorado Avalanche have released their 2020 Stadium Series jerseys with just under a month to go before the game itself. The jerseys had been leaked a few weeks ago to much disdain.

Despite the public furor, the Stadium Series jerseys are the same as the leaked ones:

The fan reaction really isn’t better now than it was a few weeks ago with the leaked jersey. A few fans like them, the vast majority don’t — judging by Twitter reaction anyway.

Here’s video of when the above trio first encountered the new sweaters that they were soon going to be modeling:

Now, our captain, who could be gracious under the best of circumstances, called them “sweet.” Mikko Rantanen is known for having understated reactions. My favorite, though, is Cale Makar’s, who comments, “Oh, it’s got my name, too.” That’s a little like complimenting the frame around a picture rather than the picture itself.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Landeskog hilariously goes on to give his real feelings away, “They look better live than they do in pictures.”

Cale meanwhile, our sweet little cherub, still continues to subtly give away his true feelings by saying, “Gabe told me it looks better in person, and it actually does. It looks a lot better.” Better than the initial monstrosity we all witnessed.

Gabe goes on to try and find nice things to say about it while the social media director desperately tries to point out the meaning behind the design.

To be fair, every part of the jersey design does have some meaning. The burgundy triangles in the center of the A are meant to represent the Cadet Chapel at the Air Force Academy, where the game will be played.

The big triangle in the center, the A, is a little bit of a cross between the triangle in the current third jersey and the traditional Colorado Avalanche logo.

You can see a little connection between the triangle above and the peaked A of the crest in the new Stadium Series jersey.

The jersey also features similar color blocking that in this case is representative of Colorado. The blue is the Colorado sky. The white, of course, represents the snow-covered mountains. The burgundy relates to the red rocks of the state.

The reason the A is tucked right under their chins like a napkin is supposedly because it echoes the “same daring styles worn by outdoor athletes — aggressive performance apparel.”

Here’s the explanation.

As I reported in a previous (rumor) post, they’ll be available for purchase on Monday.

I like the fact that each aspect of the sweater has some special connection to the game and to the locale. However, I wish it was executed better. I will be going to the Stadium Series game, but I will be wearing my Erik Johnson Stadium Series jersey from four years ago:

That one had a lot of cool meaning and connection to the state and the past, too.

What do you think, Colorado Avalanche fans? Will you be buying the new Stadium Series sweater?
