The official word on the Colorado Avalanche’s Stadium Series jersey hasn’t been released yet. Unofficially, they’re coming soon.

The Colorado Avalanche are hosting the LA Kings at Falcon Field on February 15 for their second outdoor game. As of the time of writing, the team had not officially released, much less started selling, a special Stadium Series jersey. When they played their last outdoor game, the jersey design was released in September.

I emphasize the word officially, because a couple months ago a jersey design was leaked to social media.

The leak was met with immediate and harsh backlash. The top of the A looks like a napkin tucked into your collar and what’s with that gigantic swatch of burgundy at the bottom?

So, here we are one week into January, with the Stadium Series game just five weeks away, and we still have no official word on what the special jersey will look like. I mean, if it has to be the above jersey, can we just get some pictures of Gabriel Landeskog/Nathan MacKinnon/Cale Makar modeling it already? It might look better then.

The release is so delayed that some fans are opining that the backlash from the above jersey has the creators scrambling to come up with a new design. I mean, that’s a win-win. Some fans, though, wonder if the two teams will just play in their regular gear. (I don’t know that teams ever play in a Stadium Series game wearing their regular gear.)

*In extreme gossipy voice: Well, yesterday I was at Altitude Authentics picking up my Tyson Jost jersey. I saw some generic t-shirts for the Stadium Series game, but no jerseys. Since I was there anyway, I asked the clerks if the store was going to receive such sweaters. And I was told they were expecting a shipment on January 20.

Well, there you go. Just so you know, that’s a completely unconfirmed rumor. The only authority I can lend to that rumor is the fact that Altitude Authentics is in Pepsi Center, and it’s the official fan gear supplier for the Colorado Avalanche.

Meanwhile, we did get the news of who will be the entertainment during the Stadium Series game:

Country singer Sam Hunt will be singing at the game. He’s from Georgia, so I don’t know what the connection is. Anyway, we’re also certain to have an unprecedented amount of air force flyovers since the game is at the Air Force Academy and probably a performance from an Air Force band.

Meanwhile, since we don’t have any Stadium Series jerseys to buy, let’s consider donating to a worthwhile cause. Australia is on fire, and their resources are being obliterated in the flames. The hockey apparel company Bring Hockey Back has made T-shirts with the slogan “Legs Feed the ‘Roo” and some sick graphics.

Proceeds from the sale of the T-shirt and the attendant flag will be equally split among the following charities:

  • Port Macquarie Koala Hospital
  • NSW Rural Fire Service
  • QLD Fire and Rescue
  • SA Country Fire Service
  • Vic County Fire Authority
  • Tasmania Fire Service

Those shirts represent a great way to support the victims of the catastrophic Australia fires as well as your love of hockey.

Well, what do you think, Avs Nation? Would you rather the Colorado Avalanche skate out in the above jerseys or play in their regulars or alternates? Or are you holding out hope for a whole new jersey design?
