The Colorado Avalanche are set for a busy second day of the 2026 NHL Draft after sitting out the fireworks of Round 1.
The Avs have a total of 10 picks, most of them coming from the fourth round onwards. Here’s a look at the picks Colorado has on the docket:
No. 43 (originally belonging to St. Louis Blues)
No. 74: (originally belonging to Nashville Predators)
No. 126 (own)
No. 128 (originally belonging to Carolina Hurricanes)
No. 149 (originally belonging to Philadelphia Flyers)
No. 152 (originally belonging to Boston Bruins)
No. 195 (originally belonging to New York Rangers)
No. 214 (originally belonging to Pittsburgh Penguins)
No. 215 (originally belonging to Ottawa Senators)
No. 222 (own)
As you can see, the Avalanche have landed numerous picks as a result of trades over the years. The most recent moves have led to the second and third-round picks in this year’s draft.
The second-rounder came in the Valeri Nichushkin deal, while the third-rounder came in the Ross Colton trade.
So, the Avs will be on the clock early in the second round to make their first selection. According to Tankathon, winger Casey Mutryn is projected to land at this spot. He’s a big, 6’3” winger coming to Boston College next season.
The early second round seems loaded with several solid wingers. That bodes well as the Avalanche will be looking to restock the cupboard in that area.
In the third round, Tankathon projects another forward, Egor Barabanov. If he’s still available, Barabanov could be an enticing pick. The forward is committed to the University of Massachusetts next season after scoring 28 goals and 91 points in 68 games in the OHL.
The second round begins at 11 am EST and should move a lot faster than the first round on Friday night. Be sure to check back here at Mile High sticking for updates on the Avalanche’s picks as they come off the board.
