The Colorado Avalanche took three shots in the 7th round of the 2026 NHL Draft, hoping that any of them could stick.

The Colorado Avalanche were the busiest team in the seventh round of the 2026 NHL Draft. With four picks in the final selection, it’s clear the organization is taking shots, hoping that something will stick.

195th – Shawn Carrier, F

At 195th overall, the Avs selected Shawn Carrier from the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL. The 5’11” winger had solid numbers, scoring 37 goals and 65 points in 61 games. The numbers were “okay” by QMJHL standards.

What could make Carrier a sneaky-good pick is that he’ll be heading to Boston University in the NCAA. If he can reach the next level there, the Avalanche might have another solid winger who could challenge for a bottom-six role.

Elite Prospects describes Carrier as an impact forechecker. Perhaps he could turn into another Parker Kelly down the line.

214th – Ondrej Ruml, D

The 214th turned into Ondrej Ruml of the Ottawa 67s of the OHL. The book on Ruml is that he’s a mobile defenseman who likes to jump into the rush.

At 6’0” and 172 pounds, he could use a little more size to compete against tougher opponents. However, there is a clear upside here. He’s the sort of puck-moving blueliner teams like to have on the ice. He scored 10 goals and 28 points in 66 OHL games this season.

He’ll likely return to Junior as an overager next season. If he can top this past season’s numbers, Ruml will be getting more attention.

215th – Alexandre Raymond

The second of back-to-back picks was used on goaltender Alexandre Raymond of the QMHL’s Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. This is another pick in which the Avalanche are taking a flyer on a big goalie.

Raymond is 6’4”, again, evoking images of MacKenzie Blackwood. What seems interesting is that Raymond was the second goalie Colorado took on the day. In the fourth round, the Avs selected Tobias Tvrznik.

Like Tvrznik, size is what counts here. But what makes Raymond a tantalizing prospect is his numbers in the high-scoring QMJHL. The 18-year-old sported a 2.09 GAA and .914 SV%. Those are great numbers for the league.
