Colorado Avalanche Need to Show Killer Instinct in Dallas
The Colorado Avalanche need to channel their killer instinct so they can take their place as an elite team. They can start tonight in Dallas.
The Colorado Avalanche have the talent to be an elite team. They have the depth to be an elite team. Being an elite team, one that challenges for the Stanley Cup on a regular basis, is just within their grasp.
But it keeps eluding them like the proverbial golden ring on the ferris wheel. Part of the problem is that they just don’t have that killer instinct.
We saw the lack in the last three games. In all three losses, the Avalanche had a lead in the third period. Yet they’ve gone on to lose the whole game.
That’s a lack of killer instinct, the inability or unwillingness to press harder even though your opponent is down.
Well, I don’t know if the Colorado Avalanche will have a lead at any point in tonight’s game against the Dallas Stars. However, they need to find that killer instinct.

The Colorado Avalanche can’t play at full-intensity in Game 38 of am 82-game season. However, they can play a full 60. They’ll need to do so tonight because Dallas is one of the few teams who can skate with Colorado.
And they’re one of the few teams as well-stacked. They are perfectly capable of capitalizing on any shifts the Avs take off.
Be Dominant on the Power Play
Colorado failed to capitalize on two power play attempts in the Wild game. In the last two weeks, they’re converting at just a 19% rate, which puts them in the bottom third of the NHL.
Hey, the Colorado Avalanche have the power to be dominant on the man-advantage because of all the firepower they have. Plus, they’re finally healthy again — they have their full complement of shooters. They need to be elite on the PP.

No More Turnovers
Christmas is over. We should all be on diets. So, no more turnovers.
No, really, that and “play a full 60” are my mantras this season. If they can’t fully eliminate all turnovers, at least don’t do so in their own zone.
How to Enjoy the Game
Game Time: Dec. 28, 5:00 pm MT
TV: Alt 2, FS-SW+ (Stars’ feed)
Radio: Altitude Radio (FM 92.5/AM 950)
The Colorado Avalanche are going to be facing a well-rested Dallas Stars team tonight. The Stars have had six days off — they haven’t played since December 22 against Calgary. The Avs, meanwhile, are in their second game of a back-to-back, one which involves travel.
All the more reason for them to work on their killer instinct.
