What would Colorado Avalanche players use as a replacement for a hockey puck?

The Colorado Avalanche released a fun video on Friday afternoon, and players were asked what they would use as a replacement for a hockey puck. The answers are hilarious!

American Thanksgiving is less than a week away, and the Colorado Avalanche are the best team in the league right now. On Friday afternoon, some of the team’s players participated in a fun video uploaded to X and YouTube where they were asked a very specific and inventive question.

What would you use as a replacement for a hockey puck?

Defenseman Josh Manson started things off with a basic answer: “Something shaped like a hockey puck, probably.” Oh trust me, the answers get way more goofy than what Manson had to offer, though I can’t say Manson’s answer is necessarily bad. It’s pretty basic but makes sense. Later in the clip, Manson provided a more specific answer: “Probably like a dried up muffin or something.” Now, I’ve got to say that is pretty specific, which makes it even better! Which flavour of muffin is the least liked? Well, that’s up for debate, but you could add your least favourite muffin to the list.

The next player up in the video was defenseman Brent Burns, who said the replacement of his choosing would be “a nice ribeye, medium-rare.” Now, I don’t suggest using a nice cut of meat as a hockey puck, but the answer is hilarious and it just felt like an obvious answer for somebody like Burns, missing teeth and all. Can I offer up a filet mignon? Great, now I want steak!

Speaking of filet, that was the answer for the next player up, Ross Colton. Colton points out the shape of a filet mignon, and just based off of that alone, it makes perfect sense compared to some other possible answers.

Heck, let’s stick with the steak theme, why don’t we? That’s exactly what Parker Kelly did, though his answer was different: Kelly chose a tenderloin because, “I don’t like fat on my steak,” he said with a grin.

Next up was the team captain, Gabriel Landeskog. He chose the dessert theme, going with a donut—siting its shape (though not all donuts are circular, Landy!). Landy then proceeds to mention how it would “be weird to be shooting a carrot.” Oh man, the creativity in these players’ minds! It really makes you aware that they are human beings too. Hockey is a serious sport and when the games are happening, it’s all business. Off the ice, they are having fun. You just have to love it!

Defensemen Cale Makar and Sam Malinski were next up, and they both chose a burger. Makar doesn’t offer any more commentary with his answer, but Malinski points out that a burger is “probably similar to a hockey puck.”

Injured foward Logan O’Connor was up next in the questioning and he provided a breakfast item: A frozen bagel. Again, sticking with the shape theme.

Goaltender Scott Wedgewood, who has played the majority of the team’s games so far this season, chose a can of tuna, which seems most like a hockey puck than any of the other answers. That might just be the best answer of them all!

Defenseman Devon Toews came up with one, as well: An orange. I have a feeling that an orange probably wouldn’t last a long time out there. I feel like it would get beaten up after a while, with the peel tearing and orange juice flying everywhere. Good try, though, Taser!

Landeskog closes out the video by asking the social media team if they know what the earliest versions of a hockey puck were made from, and, well, I’ll leave the rest of the video up for your viewing pleasure to find out what he said.

As we near American Thanksgiving, I hope that these responses make you giggle, make you laugh. Heck, even if it “just” puts a smile on your face, that’s great. Just a reminder that not everything is all that serious and to just have fun once in a while. That’s what the Avalanche did here, and I highly encourage you to watch the video.
