The Roaring 20’s line is sticking around for with Colorado Avalanche for several more years. This official on Monday due to the news of the contract extension signed by Logan O’Connor, number 25.

O’Connor signed a six-year extension worth an AAV of $2.5 million. That is an absolute bargain for a key piece of the Avalanche.

O’Connor mans the right side (right wing) on the third line, deemed The Roaring 20’s line, given that it played an incredible role on the team during the 2023-24 NHL season. O’Connor played in 57 games and recorded 13 goals and 12 assists. He finished the regular season with a plus-minus of 13, the best of his career. Over the last three years, his plus-minus had kept climbing.

Unfortunately, his season was cut short after he sustained a hip injury and was placed on injured reserve. The Colorado Avalanche have got to feel really good about his timeline and his future. Even if something, god forbid, happens during his extension years, the Colorado Avalanche have him on an AAV of $2.5 million.

The Avalanche now have the line locked up until 2027-28, which is when Ross Colton’s deal expires. The other two, O’Connor and Wood, are here until 2031 and 2029, respectively.

I’m sure that General Manager Chris MacFarland is often thinking about how his roster is constructed and perhaps there will be some other moves in the near future. The team is not in a great position right now in terms of salary cap because of the supposed returns of Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichushkin. The return of those players, or even just one of them, can’t happen unless the team ships off somebody who has a high cap number. Perhaps they could trade two players who have smaller cap numbers. Who knows. We will find out at some point.

But for right now, let’s celebrate O’Connor’s re-signing and say welcome back, LOC! We are so glad to have you around for many more years to come.
