The Colorado Avalanche still don’t know who their opponent will be in Round 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. As they continue to wait, star center Nathan MacKinnon spoke with media Thursday and let them in on one of his past-times he will be doing.

"I mean, as humans, we're curious, but we have no control of anything in that series. Probably will watch the Nuggets, to be honest, tonight. Hopefully, they can force a game seven."

The Denver Nuggets face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday in Game 6 in the first round of the NBA playoffs. I admit I’m not a big basketball follower, but it is cool whenever you hear that a player from your favourite team(s) is a fan of a local team in a different sport.
Back in 2024, Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic presented MacKinnon with the Hart trophy at the Avalanche’s home opener. That was very cool to see. Normally, you would expect somebody like your team captain—Gabriel Landeskog—to do the honors, but having Jokic be the one to present the Hart trophy to MacKinnon was a great twist. When the time came, MacKinnon did the same for Jokic, presenting him with his MVP trophy.
As both teams continue their 2025-26 postseason journey, I’m sure that Jokic probably is keeping tabs on the Avalanche, too. Jokic previously attended at least one Avalanche game back in 2024, in which he received “MVP!” chants, to no surprise. So many sports fans in every city are a big fan of the city’s local teams, and Denver is no different.
Sometimes, it is nice to just sit back and take a little bit of a break from your main job and goal. While the Avalanche continue to wait to find out who their Round 2 opponent will be, the Nuggets can force a Game 7 if they win tonight. The Avalanche don’t even know exactly what day they will be facing their Round 2 opponent. But sometimes, it is just best to let things take care of themselves.
The Avalanche know that the job isn’t finished, and the day and time of the game shouldn’t really matter to them. For now, MacKinnon’s focus is on the Nuggets, which is fun.
