Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon continues to rack up the milestones. On Thursday night, MacKinnon scored his 25th of the season. The tally against the Florida Panthers opened up a three-goal lead on second-place scorer Morgan Geekie of the Boston Bruins.
But most importantly, it was MacKinnon’s 392nd career tally. That goal moved him into sole possession of the Avalanche franchise record for goals. The record counts from the team’s relocation during the 1995-96 season.

Joe Sakic held the previous mark with 391. However, Sakic’s 625 career goals include the time he spent in Quebec. So, that’s why Sakic holds the franchise record (Avalanche/Nordiques) for most goals.
But if we focus solely on the Avalanche, it’s MacKinnon who’s the all-time leader. That’s an impressive mark. At this rate, fans will be celebrating MacKinnon’s 400th career goal soon. Perhaps the Avalanche scoring machine can treat fans to that milestone before Christmas.
NHL.com caught up with Bednar following the game. He had this to say about the occasion:
“I can't keep track of his milestones, because it seems like he's getting one every game. So, I don't even know which one you're talking about, but he was really good tonight. Like highly competitive at the point of the puck and patient with the puck, but still making plays, and making dangerous plays and difficult plays all night.”
Indeed, MacKinnon was all over the place on Thursday night. He ended the night with two points (1G, 1A) and the game’s second star. The night belonged to Gavin Brindley. The 21-year-old returned from injury to score a goal and an assist on the night. His two points gave him nine in 19 games.
That’s not bad for a prospect who was once an afterthought in the Columbus Blue Jackets’ organization. Who knows, Brindley could be on a path to challenge MacKinnon’s goal-scoring records. That may seem implausible now, but anything can happen in the NHL.
