Game 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs between the Colorado Avalanche and LA Kings took quite a turn in the second period.
The game got delayed for roughly 20 minutes due to a pane of glass being broken as, it appears, a fan was banging on the glass. Honestly, there had to be a weakness point in the glass for that to have happened.
A long delay has happened many times in sports. In a Super Bowl between the Ravens and 49ers, the power went out in the stadium they played in, causing a major delay. This is kind of the same sort of situation. Thankfully, it wasn’t due to an injury, though the pane of glass did end up shattering on Kings coach DJ Smith.
Smith exited the bench area but returned as good as new. Needless to say, it is a good thing that he is alright, as glass can be very dangerous.
Through two periods of play, it’s more of the same: A lot of physicality, chippiness, and a lot of back and forth play. The game has also consisted of some poor officiating, but what else is new?
Getting back to the physicality part of the game, head coach Jared Bednar spoke on that this morning. He referred to it as “a whole different level of intensity.”
The game will be decided in either the third period, or overtime. After a long delay with a game that already started late, it’s not ideal, especially for fans in the east. However, that’s just the way it goes sometimes. Thankfully, the game was able to continue tonight instead of it having to be pushed to, say, tomorrow or when Game 3 is scheduled for: Thursday.
Both teams are proving to be extremely physical in this series, and that could be an indicator of how this series goes. I don’t want things to get so chippy that it wears Colorado down, but at the end of the day, you have to do what you have to do to win.
