The Colorado Avalanche face the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday as part of the team’s long road trip. On Tuesday evening, Colorado pulled off an incredible comeback from being down 4-0 in the first period against the Buffalo Sabres, to winning 5-4 and avoiding overtime.

The Hurricanes have had a pretty successful season so far, as they have a record of 16-8-1. However, they just lost th the Seattle Kraken 4-2 on Tuesday. That will probably provide them with a spark and make them hungrier to beat Colorado.

Avalanche coach Jared Bednar has a decision to make in terms of the team’s starting goaltender on Thursday, as Alexandar Georgiev allowed the four goals-against, and lasted until just the middle of the first period before being pulled for newly-acquired Scott Wedgewood. It would not surprise me if Wedgewood gets the start again after his 22-save night.

Colorado Avalanche vs Carolina Hurricanes over their last 10 meetings

The Avalanche are 6-4 against the Hurricanes over their last 10 matchups.

Colorado will look to start a win streak against the Hurricanes when they square off on Thursday. They won the most recent matchup, on November 9, 6-4.

Mikko Rantanen was the lone two-goal scorer in the game for the Avalanche, while the rest of the team’s goals came from Arturri Lehkonen, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and Sam Malinski.

The Avalanche have averaged 3.2 goals per game over the last 10 matchups, while Carolina has averaged 3.0. These last 10 matchups date back to March 11, 2019. From March 16, 2022 to October 21, 2023, the Avalanche won all four of the meetings, with a combined score of 20-11.

Unfortunately, with a 14-12 record, the Colorado Avalanche are in fourth place in the Central Division. Fortunately, there is plenty of time to get right on track and have the team be the team that we know they can be late in the year. It continues with a tough matchup against the Hurricanes.
