The Colorado Avalanche players are sharing a little bit of what they’re doing during the quarantine and hockey hiatus — and it’s pretty fun.

The Colorado Avalanche are a month into their hockey hiatus, and we’re all about that long into our quarantine. Avalanche TV newbie Rachel Richlinski has been keeping us appraised of what the players are up to.

They’ve had a pretty eventful week. For one, we saw that our captain, Gabriel Landeskog, is experimenting with how to eat an apple. Now, you might not think there are so many ways to eat an apple. You bite into it or slice it.

More from Mile High Sticking

When you’re in quarantine, though, you try some new ways. For our captain, he shoved a whole quarter into his mouth then proceeded to manhandle the apple to break a piece off. You read that right — he broke a piece of the apple off.

It should come with one of those “Don’t try this at home” labels because I tried it at home, and the apple flew across the room.

Meanwhile, Samuel Girard has been quite active on Instagram. It’s locked, so I can’t share any videos — which is a pity because that ice chopping video was the best. However, Girard shared a video of his uncle, Gilles, playing the guitar and singing.

Guess we see where Girard gets his rock star tendencies from.

By the way, speaking of Instagram, yesterday Erik Johnson shared a video which was a picture of himself and the captain with this emoji: 😭. Landeskog replied back pretty quickly that he missed Erik, too.

Told you they were like brothers.

Oh, and it was Nikita Zadorov’s daughter’s birthday the other day, and they had an elaborate birthday party for her. Zadorov also appeared on Instagram live to answer questions both in Russian and English.

Next, we found out Joonas Donskoi is working on his post-hockey career move — dancing king. Actually, he joined the popular video app TikTok with his fiancee. They named their TikTok the Dancing Donskois because, well, it’s a dancing TikTok. No, really, Donskoi dances. He scared one of his cats in doing so.

We can add him to my dancing post. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Tyson Jost, Nazem Kadri, and now Joonas Donskoi are all dancing fools for the Colorado Avalanche.

Donskoi’s fiancee, by the way, used to be a cheerleader.

Finally, last week we had a birthday to celebrate — J.T. Compher turned 25 on April 8. Quarter of a century. It’s all over but the crying now, JT.

Fun fact: He was born the year the Avalanche moved to Colorado from Quebec.

Our dancing Donskoi Joonas turned 28 yesterday, and Nikita Zadorov is about to turn 25 himself.

Here’s the update video:

Recently, Kyle Keefe talked with alum Stephane Yelle. I’m just waiting to dissect that interview because he delivered on my favorite from back in the day, Rene Corbet. He also got together more alumni — Dan Hinote, Darcy Tucker, and John-Michael Liles. I’m looking forward into diving into that one, too.

We have to follow along with what Uncle Gilles says, “Cava bien aller,” It will all be ok. The Colorado Avalanche’s season, like the whole world, is on pause. So, let’s enjoy the small stuff.
