Colorado Avalanche Post to Post: Best Preseason Week 1 Social Media
As the Colorado Avalanche enter preseason we take a look at some of their best social media posts this week.
Following on from our post about the great work the Colorado Avalanche social media team does, we are proud to introduce a new feature where we will take a look at some of the more fun and interesting social media posts each week.
With preseason just about to start some of the media guys were taking a look at the roster list. Not sure what it says but Kyle Keefe clearly looks shocked.

Captain Gabriel Landeskog showed us what a great captain and even better person he is by giving his extra stick to a fan at practice.
We were treated to a sample of an upcoming Avalanche 360 feature where forward A.J. Greer took on Altitude’s Lauren Gardner in a series of arcade game contests. AJ surprised everyone with his dance moves.
He also took some time to show off his new tattoos, which we’re hoping will lead to a feature about players and their ink.
Who among us hasn’t wanted to celebrate the return of Colorado Avalanche hockey by kissing Sam Girard on the back of the head?
Eager for preseason, Nathan MacKinnon was out on the ice before everyone else the morning of the team’s first game. If there was anything needed to demonstrate his hunger this season, this is it.
Defenceman Ian Cole and forward Matt Calvert made their Avalanche debuts and with that they introduced themselves to us. Cole hopes to bring some more wins to the team this year, a sentiment which I think is echoed by all of us. I’m certainly looking forward to seeing what he can do.
Matt Calvert hopes to bring speed and leadership to the team. Leadership is also something Cole has mentioned he’d like to bring to the team. Hopefully they’ll both be able to lend their experience without stepping on the toes of the established core.
Something which I think is new this year is a breakdown of each period once it’s over. Useful numbers for those who are following the game online rather than watching on TV or listening to the radio.
Despite the first preseason game ending in a loss it was nice to see the social team still able to have a bit of fun with it.
What I love is the hashtags that fans come up with for their favorites that are taken on board by the media team and become a regular occurrence. We have #MacKMonday, #TysonTuesday, #WilsonWednesday, the sadly now departed #Yakurday and now #ColeContent.
Cole is looking set to become a social media favorite. From playing up to the camera, to starting banter on Instagram. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of him as we continue to look at the social media content in the coming weeks.

There is so much going on in this photo I don’t even know where to start. Nikita Zadorov‘s shorts are amazing, and I love that he’s still towering over Alexander Kerfoot even though Kerfy is wearing skates and Z is wearing slides.
This isn’t particularly exciting unless, like me, you enjoy suits. But I was excited to see the guys in their road trip suits for the first time this preseason. I’m particularly enjoying Mason Geertsen‘s magenta shirt and tie. I love the guys who bring a little color to their suits.

Goaltender Philipp Grubauer made his Avalanche debut and wants to assure us he was a good kid (pending Mama Grubbauer’s confirmation)
As a follow on from last season’s nickname videos it seems Sam Girard has another one that, until recently, no one knew about.
I’m not sure how you get to Jerry from Girard but it’s still fun.
With another four preseason games to go we can look forward to more social media fun over the next week. It’s always an interesting time because the Colorado Avalanche media team gets to highlight the players that we won’t necessarily see once the regular season begins.
We’ll be back next week to offer more social media highlights.
