The Colorado Avalanche, via Altitude Sports Network, have filled their positions for play-by-play announcers on TV and on the radio.
The voices of the Colorado Avalanche will be changing, at least slightly. Some old friends are going to take on new roles.
As announced a few weeks ago, TV play-by-play announcer Mike Haynes stepped down from his position. Altitude Sports Network took some time to look around, but they didn’t have to go far to find the ideal replacement — Marc Moser.
Moser has been the radio voice of the Avalanche for 11 years. He started out as the in-studio host and producer for all the team’s radio broadcasts. Additionally, he hosted a daily talk show about the Avs. He worked in that capacity from 1997 to 2004.
Three years later, Moser returned as a TV studio host for one season before becoming the only radio voice of the Avs starting in 2007. From that time moving forward, he’s also hosted his daily Marc Moser show.
Here’s an example of that show, with Marc talking to prospect Conor Timmins:
He’ll keep up his duties on the Marc Moser show even as he transitions into TV play-by-play announcer.
In case you’re wondering, Peter McNab isn’t going anywhere. He’s still expected to be Colorado’s color analyst next season.
Another familiar face is returning to the family, though we won’t be seeing his face. Conor McGahey is going to be taking over the radio play-by-play spot.
McGahey has spent 10 years within the Kroenke Sports Entertainment system. He was the play-by-play announcer for the Colorado Rapids, University of Denver Pioneers hockey and the Colorado Mammoth.
Last year, McGahey traveled to Las Vegas to work as the Golden Knights’ pregame and postgame host. Obviously he likes Colorado better, though, because he returned for those duties with the Colorado Rockies.
And now he will be the new radio host of the Colorado Avalanche.
Here’s the very classy way he announced his return on Twitter:
Next: Ian Cole to Join the Avs
We’ve got a couple months — until the September 18 preseason game, which just so happens to be against the Vegas Golden Knights — before we get to hear Marc Moser and Conor McGahey officially in their new roles for the Colorado Avalanche.
