The Colorado Avalanche wrapped up their final day of on-ice activities of prospect development camp with drills followed by a scrimmage.
The Colorado Avalanche held their annual prospect development camp at the end of June/beginning of July. The team hosted 29 players — 20 team draftees or signings and nine amateur tryouts.
Interesting side note: One of the amateur tryouts was Vladislav Kotkov. Some Avs fans were impressed by what they saw of Kotkov:
Avs Development Camp invitee Vladislav Kotkov is a big (6'2, 205) RW from Russia via the QMJHL. Put up decent points in the Q last year and was projected as a 4th rounder in this year's draft. Could be able to fit right into the Eagles roster this year.

Ok I'm convinced get Kotkov an ELC

Colorado did not offer him an entry-level contract. Kotkov also attented the San Jose Sharks development camp — and they did sign him. The difference in perspectives? If I had to guess, I’d say it’s because the Sharks play a bigger, heavier game than the speedy, little Avalanche.
Anyway, speaking for smallish speedsters, defenseman Cale Makar continued to make his presence known:
Development Camp has such a positive feel this year.

Makar is headed back to UMass to play for the Minutemen. He’s going to wear the C as captain. Both GM Joe Sakic and UMass coach Greg Carvel have stated they expect Makar to join the Avs at the conclusion of the Minutemen’s season. Because Makar will be playing college hockey, he won’t be at rookie camp this fall.
Back to prospect development camp. Tweets from Day 3 were a little light because everyone was preparing for the three-on-three scrimmage set to take place in the evening up in Fort Collins. However, we did get to see surefire fan-favorite Martin Kaut at work:
First one on the ice today is Kaut this kid just seems amped to play hockey.

Keep away drills. Trying to take the puck from Kaut is not gonna happen.

The other prospects also worked on some stick and puck drills:

As mentioned above, the prospects headed up to Fort Collins for the Burgandy and White Game at at EPIC (Blue Arena).

You can see Conor Timmins in the second picture. He was unable to participate in any on-ice activities because of lingering concussion symptoms.

Old man Denis Smirnov has fallen, and he can’t get up. (It’s funny because he was a overage selection last season, so he’s the “old man” of the group at 20…)
Anyway, moving on, some of the fans from up north got to see the Avs prospects in action:

The first player out is Josh Dickinson, the free agency signing we all missed because it happened at the beginning of April, when we were all focused on nothing but the playoffs.
Here’s Martin Kaut in action:

I have to concur — that looks good. Might we see some Kaut action this season with the Avs? I’m going to guess he’ll participate a lot in the preseason then be sent to Loveland. He’ll play fewer than 10 NHL games to preserve his rookie status — it’s never too early to start thinking about the 2020 Expansion Draft.
A last look at Cale Makar:
This looks gooooood.#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/uOxvNsSQXx

Hopefully Makar can put on some muscle weight without sacrificing speed. He looks good in burgundy and blue — but also just a tad tiny.
Anyway, Team White prevailed. They held a handshake line:
What a fun game!

Thanks to all the fans for coming out and cheering our prospects on. #GoAvsGo https://t.co/3p6pYs6zsR
More About Prospect Development Camp:
The Burgundy and White game was the last on-ice activity for the Colorado Avalanche prospects. However, the lads didn’t head immediately home. We’ll see in a future post what they occupied their final day with.
