The Colorado Avalanche are about to begin their twenty-year anniversary season, and that’s a pretty big deal. Last week I released an article chronicling my favorite five moments in Colorado Avalanche history, along with five polls that had 4 moments in Colorado Avalanche history listed on them. The fans have voted, and the results are in so let’s hop to it.

I broke the five polls into five different categories: The Early Years, The Dynasty, The Years of Little Hope, The Rebuild, and The Future.

There are a little over two weeks left until the preseason begins for the Colorado Avalanche. So, each category from last weeks poll will still exist this week in order to determine a clear cut winner for each poll. Thus each category will sport two options this week, with the exception of The Rebuild category, as there was a tie for second place, so it will sport three options.

I promised five moments in history would be left this week in last week’s article, and in many cases this is inevitable as second place in the polls was not much competition across the board. However, as a benefit for the doubt, I revised my previous statement and meant to include 10 moments this week. But there is an outlier in one of the polls; as such, perfection takes a back seat to 11 options this week.

Hopefully, we’ll be left with 5 options next week, and a single poll to determine the overall consensus of the fan’s favorite moment.

Without further delay…

Next: The Early Years

The Early Years

This poll originally included the following options:

1) The Red Wings rivalry

2) The 1997 line brawl with the Red Wings

3) Patrick Roy’s lack of ability to hear Jeremy Roenick

4) Patrick Roy’s statement of no more rats

However, the bottom two were apparently inadequate, and so the top two take to the streets once more in pursuit of the top spot. One of course has already accrued the top spot, but I will not taint your judgement with percentages, instead it’s as if we’re beginning from scratch again (you could go look at the results from last week’s post if you feel so inclined).

The options are clear, as last time, so have at it.

Next: The Dynasty

The Dynasty

This poll originally included the following options:

1) Ray Bourque lifts the Cup

2) 2001 Stanley Cup

3) 1996 Stanley Cup

4) Peter Forsberg’s Hall of Fame career

However, the bottom two were once again inadequate to fit the mold for elite moments. That’s rather telling really because the 1996 Stanley Cup win didn’t garner much attention, and neither did Peter Forsberg’s HoF career. It means that many people gained admiration and dedication to the Colorado Avalanche later in their tenure, rather than in their first year.

Peter Forsberg’s career was something of consistency across the eras of the Colorado Avalanche. Still, it’s obvious that people were most captivated by the 2001 Stanley Cup, and the moment in which Ray Bourque finally got to kiss the greatest trophy in sports.

Once again, the options are clearly laid out.

Next: The Years of Little Hope

This poll originally included the following options:

1) Adam Foote’s final shift

2) Joe Sakic retires

3) Tony Granato’s years as coach

4) Joe Sacco’s years as coach

It was pretty clear what options would head the list in this poll, and that’s Adam Foote’s final shift, and the day that Joe Sakic retired. As influential as Granato’s and Sacco’s years were as head coach, they are nothing in comparison to the other two options. So, this time you’re left with two rather captivating options, especially since the other two options will no longer hinder the results for these two.

As before, have at it.

Next: The Rebuild

The Rebuild

This poll originally included the following options:

1) Matt Duchene’s celebration at the draft

2) Landeskogging

3) The hiring of Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic

4) Nathan MacKinnon drafted

Surprisingly, the drafting of Nathan MacKinnon took the bottom in this poll, but not by much. Furthermore, the other three (top-3 listed) were extremely close, so I am convinced that the results to this poll may change. There were two that tied for second place, and so that is the reason this poll has 3 options. However, by next week there should only be one option that remains.

There’s your options, now go ahead and vote.

Next: The Future

The Future

This poll originally included the following options:

1) Patrick Roy pushes the partition

2) The trade of Ryan O’Reilly

3) Nathan MacKinnon’s rookie streak

4) Coors Light Stadium Series

Surprisingly, the Coors Light Stadium Series will not make this week’s poll. I understand that it hasn’t occurred yet, but technically there haven’t been twenty years in Colorado Avalanche history until this season concludes. So, I’m inclined to think that the Coors Light Stadium Series will take center stage for memorable moments this year, barring any Stanley Cup win of course.

So, the two top options will be your options for this week’s poll, and they definitely both play very influential roles in impacting the team. There’s your options, enjoy!

Conclusion

Twenty years of Colorado Avalanche history is exciting, especially with the events on the docket this year, and the introduction of new third jerseys. For the record, those are really nice looking sweaters, but that’s a different poll, yeah? Anyway, it’s always interesting to get the fan’s perspective, so your contributions are appreciated.

Inevitably, I would not have chosen many of these options for my top-two choices in each category, but that’s the glory of opinion, we’re all subject to our own. Thus, we received many different options for the ultimate list of 5 next week, and it will be intriguing to see what makes next week’s list.

As always though, it’s intriguing to hear the fan’s opinion. Sure, we got some good contribution in the polls, but I’m certain that some of your memorable experiences weren’t listed on the polls.
