NHL uniforms should not be composed of colors that are opposites on the color wheel. I know it seems like that should work — complementary colors really set each other off. However, the result usually clashes.

Witness the New York Islanders’ blue uniforms with the orange striping. The orange and blue in the 70’s-reject logo is bad enough. To carry that color palette throughout the rest of the uniform is definitely ugly.

In case you’re wondering, I’m not being hypocritical to my own home football team, the Denver Broncos.

I think their orange and blue uniforms are ugly, too, though replacing the original primary blue with navy has helped.

Note: Next year, once the Edmonton Oilers start skating around in those orange jerseys, they will easily supplant the Islanders on this list.
