The Colorado Avalanche want consistent goaltending to remain with the team
I’ll admit that I thought that Justus Annunen could be a replacement for Alexandar Georgiev after this season, when Georgiev’s contract runs out. However, despite their earlier plans to keep the former past this season, we find ourselves with a completely different goalie room, as the Avs traded both Georgiev and Annunen earlier this season.
Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood incoming. First to go was Annunen, for Wedgewood, then Georgiev for Blackwood. I was pretty impressed with Wedgewood’s first couple of starts. It got me instantly excited for what could come later down the road for this team.
The truth is, both of the new goaltenders have stood out way more than the old regime. I always took note of the early goals that Georgiev let in, and the same actually happened on Thursday night against Colorado onto an Avalanche win of 4-2. It’s just exhausting for a team to play from behind right from the beginning of the game. It could easily go from 1-0 to 2-0 with the blink of an eye.
I also thought that the team has started to play pretty well with not only their new goaltenders, but with Annunen as well. That’s why I was a bit surprised that Annunen got sent to Nashville.
I’m very excited to see what the new netminders have in store over the next couple of months, and beyond.
