The Colorado Avalanche are on another road trip, and have a game on Friday after their Thursday night win over the Sharks. This time, they face the Anaheim Ducks. As it is very close to Christmas, it’s time to think about what kinds of things the Avalanche would have on their wish list if it existed.
The Colorado Avalanche would absolutely love to have Cale Makar inside the top 10 in points
Don’t get me wrong. Cale Makar’s season has started out very nicely. Through 34 games, he has 40 points and is currently ranked 14th in the point category. However, two of his linemates, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen are in the top 10, where Makar wants to be. MacKinnon leads the league with 52, while Rantanen is fourth, tied with Kirill Kaprizov, with 48.
Now, obviously, there is plenty of time for Makar to get ahead of the game here. There are 48 games remaining in the 2024-25 season, and if you figure Makar is good for averaging close to a point per game, which he is capable of, that would push him to 88 points on the season.
To break the points down, he has nine goals and 31 assists. If he surpasses the 77 games in which he played in last year, there would be a goo chance of him also surpassing his goal total of last year of 21. I strongly believe that he can do it, as long as he is able to avoid the injury bug, something the Avalanche have struggled with this season.
Over the next four games and remaining schedule of December, the Avalanche face the Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken, Utah Hockey Club, and Winnipeg Jets.
Obviously, the main focus is for the Avalanche to win games, not pad anyone’s stats. However, when Makar scores, it’s always a fun thing to watch and it makes one feel like the Avalanche have a good shot at winning.
