Where do the Colorado Avalanche rank in playoff series wins since 2009?

The Colorado Avalanche have been one of the NHL’s premier franchises since they moved to Denver in 1995, so how much have they dominated since 2009?

The Colorado Avalanche may have won just one playoff series in the 2023 and 2024 NHL Playoffs combined, but it still doesn’t take away from just how dominant this franchise has been since 2009. They won the Cup in 2022, and they also have four division championships on their resume in the same span.

So, when pitted against the rest of the NHL, where do they rank in terms of playoff series wins between 2009 and 2024? In that span, Colorado has won eight playoff series, putting them on par with the Vancouver Canucks. Both teams could have moved up another rung in the 2024 playoffs, but they lost their respective series in the Second Round.

Had the Avs won, they would have surpassed the Dallas Stars, who snagged their ninth series win upon defeating Colorado this season. But nevertheless, they are tied for 14th in the league as of the 2024 Conference Finals.

Now the question bodes: Will the Avs continue to win in the playoffs in 2025 and beyond? Right now, they have arguably more scoring upside than anyone else in the NHL, and that will take them a long way next season. Goaltending, however, will ultimately decide if the Avalanche climb even higher in the playoff series rankings.

It will be up to Alexandar Georgiev to bounce back next season if he’s still in Denver. If another goaltender takes his place, they need to do all they can to complete the Avs. But as it stands, this team seems on pace to make annual playoff appearances throughout the 2020s.

So, if you’re an Avalanche fan, you can expect your team to hit nine, if not double-digits when it comes to playoff series wins. The Avs may not even be finished hoisting the Cup either, and as long as the likes of Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen are there, winning it all will always be a possibility.
