Fans of the Colorado Avalanche are waiting patiently (or not) for the team to break out their new anticipated throwback uniforms. There were whispers that they could reveal them this weekend, but Saturday came and went, against the Boston Bruins, with the team wearing their standard home uniform.
However, in Saturday morning skate, the team was wearing Nordiques gear, and of course, media went ahead and put a picture on X. Naturally, fans expected the team to roll with the new gear for Saturday night’s game vs Boston, but were let down.
I’d imagine that the jerseys worn in these photos won’t be what they break out in when the reveal comes to be, as it’s not a Nordiques theme. But they are obviously wearing some Nordiques-themed shorts here,
It’s possible that the team needs some time to get used to the gear that they are given—especially the goaltenders—as they are new equipment that players need time to get them into shape. The gear starts out stiff, therefore making it difficult to use the way the players want it to. That could cause some unfortunate bounces or movement issues.
Perhaps the delay is due to sales. What if they don’t have enough jerseys to sell in their team store yet? I think that once they are introduced to the team store, fans are going to go crazy for them. I also believe that there will be fans that don’t like the new uniforms, as there’s pretty much a mix of opinions on virtually everything.
For some fans, breaking out new jerseys/uniforms could be “bad luck”. That is if you believe in those types of superstitions. Colorado is now 5-0-1 after their 4-1 win vs the Bruins on Saturday night. A similar idea is playoff beards—don’t shave your beard during the playoffs unless you get eliminated.
Whatever the true reason is for the delay of the new gear, Avalanche fans are growing frustrated and impatient. They want the team to roll out these new uniforms now.
The team’s next home game is on Thursday, against the Carolina Hurricanes. Maybe that will be the day we finally see the throwback look.
