The Colorado Avalanche are a good team. The Avalanche are Stanley Cup favorites. Colorado is among the teams with the best chances of winning it all in 2027.
Those are all obvious statements. There is little doubt for anyone following hockey that all three statements are categorically true.
But now, the market also seems on board with the idea of the Avalanche going all the way in 2027.
According to recent market odds, the Avalanche are +900 favorites to take home the 2027 Stanley Cup. All right, so how does that stack up with the other favorites?
The market sees the Florida Panthers with the best odds at +850. That's pretty tight, as the Avalanche and defending champion Carolina Hurricanes are right behind at +900.
What that’s telling us is that the Panthers, right now, are seemingly healthy and, despite losing several key pieces, remain a solid team to compete for the Cup. Meanwhile, Carolina and Colorado are not that far behind.
Now, it’s worth noting that these are betting lines in late August. This is before training camp and even the first regular-season game. If there’s anything we’ve learned, it’s that things can change in a heartbeat.
Last season, the Panthers lost their captain, Aleksander Barkov, early in training camp. While we’re not wishing anything like that upon anybody, it’s just an example of how things could turn on a dime.
Avalanche clear favorites to win it all in 2027
If there’s one off-ice factor that could elevate the Avalanche to the Cup in 2027, it’s the Cale Makar extension.
One of the things I’ve drilled down on over the summer was the potential distraction that Makar’s contract could have become.
Thankfully, that won’t be the case. Yes, there will be a debate about the Avalanche’s salary cap situation, but that’s something we’ll be discussing down the line.
As it stands, the psychological boost that could come from knowing that there won’t be any uncertainty regarding Makar could be the sort of thing to ease the minds of the entire team.
And it might just be the factor that tips the scales in the Avalanche’s favor.
The road won’t be easy in 2026-27. There will be some tough challengers in the Central Division. But you have to think that, with hockey being a game of inches, one lucky bounce here or there could propel Colorado to one of the most exciting seasons ever in team history.
