In a game filled with “ooo’s” and “ahhh’s,” the Colorado Avalanche were able to take down the Nashville Predators at home on Monday night.

The team started out very slow, allowing a goal off of a turnover just 1:45 in. The Avalanche had just one shot on goal over seven minutes into the game, but picked up the pace eventually. Then, they were in it. Unfortunately, it was almost the same as past games this season: shoot, shoot, shoot, no luck.

Then the Avalanche scored two goals in the second period, finishing off with a 2-1 lead heading into the third. Nashville scored the lone goal in the third period, tying the game up again, this time at 2-2. It was a very nail biting, exciting, and enthusiastic finish to a game that saw the Avalanche get the short end of the straw on a terrible penalty call: a boarding two minute penalty that the referees reviewed when they weren’t actually allowed to (unless their microphones didn’t work and they announced to both teams of the penalty).

I don’t know, that whole sequence was very frustrating. Either way, the Predators did not score on that power play, and the Avs’ PK unit was king.

Samuel Girard was the hat-wearer of the night for the Colorado Avalanche

Thankfully, we got to continue the Avalanche’s new winning tradition brought to us by Gabriel Landeskog. Samuel Girard was the hat-wearer for an obvious reason.

Girard made an outstanding play in the overtime period, stealing the puck away from the Predators and motoring down the ice on a breakaway opportunity. You know the rest.

Well, if you don’t, he scored. Before Monday night, Girard had seven points on the season—all seven points were assists. Monday night’s goal by Girard was his first of the year. You honestly can’t write this sort of story.

Avs Faithful thanks Girard for that incredible first of the season. We hope to see many more from him, but for now, let’s enjoy our latest win, pushing the Colorado Avalanche to .500 (8-8) on the season.
