Colorado Avalanche players get creative when asked what they do for work

Some of the Colorado Avalanche players were asked a great question ahead of their Wednesday meeting with the Dallas Stars and it’s great!

The Colorado Avalanche are in the midst of the 2026-27 season, but surprisingly, not everybody that the players meet even knows what they do for a living—allegedly. Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Dallas Stars at Ball Arena, the NHL posted a video on its Instagram and it featured some of the team’s stars answering the question, “What do you tell people that you do for a living?”

The first player who appears in the video is Brent Burns. Burns’ answer might be the funniest. His answer was dentist. It’s funny because Burns is highly known for his missing teeth—the gap in the middle of his upper teeth. While he doesn’t show the gap off during this video, the gap is very evident on game days. It is a part of him now.

It’s great to see that Burns has taken care of the missing teeth, but as long as he is playing professional hockey, the gap will remain, and fans wouldn’t want it any other way.

Next up was Cale Makar. Makar had a bit of trouble answering that question but ended up suggesting teacher. Unfortunately, he didn’t specify what type of teacher, but I think that we can leave that up to fans’ imagination. His rosey red cheeks could be an indicator to some people that he is a gym teacher who works very hard alongside his students. I could see that being passable.

Following Makar was Nathan MacKinnon. The former Hart Trophy winner said that he would tell people that he is in school. “But then they ask me what I’m studying. I don’t know anything about school.”

Okay, that seems like classic Nate. He would have some time to think about an answer at some point, but he’d rather stick to hockey, it appears. MacKinnon lives and breathes hockey. Hockey is in his veins. It’s easy to admire something like that even though I would have loved to hear what a true answer from him would have been.

Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood said he was “the guy that holds the stop sign at a construction site for a bit.

… Or a coder.”

Those are two solid choices. You have to go to school for a while to become either one of those, so I think that those choices make Blackwood sound very smart.

Nazem Kadri, who came back to Colorado last season, gave a short and sweet answer: “I’m a realtor. I sell tons of houses.” You know, I could see that being the case.

Fourth-line winger Logan O’Connor, who hasn’t played yet this season, said he was a student but, “I don’t know how much longer it’s going to work.”

Last up was Parker Kelly. He also had a pretty funny reply: “I usually just say I work, and if they ask, I’d just say I’m an engineer. That one has not gone over a couple of times. I did it one time and they were like, ‘Oh are you here for the conference?’ And I’m like, ‘nah I’m not here for the conference.’

Almost busted!

I think that this entire video was full of hilarious answers. Which one was your favorite?
