The Colorado Avalanche’s Opening Night roster is gradually taking shape. On Sunday, the Avs placed four players on waivers.
Alex Barre-Boulet, Tye Felhaber, Jason Polin, and T.J. Tynan were waived. Fortunately, all four cleared and will report to the Colorado Eagles’ camp for the start of the AHL season.
Additionally, Chase Bradley, Alex Gagne, Cooper Gay, and Kyle Keyser were sent down to the Eagles. These players did not need to clear waivers. Interestingly, offseason trade addition Ronnie Attard was also sent to the Eagles.

The Avalanche currently have five goalies on the training camp roster, 10 blueliners, and 20 forwards. That total will need to be whittled down to the final 23 for Opening Night.
As such, more cuts could come in the following days. The Avalanche will likely roll with seven defensemen, 14 forwards, and two goalies. However, that could change depending on injuries. Daily Faceoff reports Logan O’Connor and Samuel Girard as unavailable, despite being officially listed on the team’s training camp roster.
So, there’s still a shot for hopefuls to make one last good impression before the roster is finalized.
Colorado Avalanche goalie situation remains uncertain
MacKenzie Blackwood remains uncertain to start the season. While the early indication is that Blackwood will be ready for the season opener, it doesn’t appear that he’s nearing that point.
On Saturday night, Scott Wedgewood and Trent Miner split the duties in the crease. It looks like that could be the tandem to start the season. Blackwood is officially on the training camp roster with Mathis Langevin and Isak Posch also on the roster.
Posch and Langevin don’t figure to make the team. They’ll likely head down to the minors sooner rather than later.
Unless one of Posch or Langevin impresses enough to push Miner out, it’ll be Miner backing up Wedgewood if Blackwood can’t go to open the season. Hopefully, it won’t come to that. But if it does, the Avalanche’s early-season success will come down to Wedgewood and Miner’s ability to hold the fort until Blackwood’s return.
