The Colorado Avalanche recently locked up a playoff spot the other day, and while they are trying to lock up the number one seed, the team is also looking towards the future.
The Avalanche on Monday signed forward Matthew DiMarsico to his entry-level contract (ELC). DiMarsico is a 22-year-old forward who stands at 6’0”, 180 pounds.
His first recorded hockey statistics began in the 2022-23 season, when he played 59 games for the Green Bay Gamblers. He had 25 goals and 21 assists in the regular season. In the postseason that year, he played in three games and had one assist.
Over the last three years, he played in 111 games, recording 42 goals and 58 assists for Pennsylvania State University.. That is tremendous production for a player at that stage of his career. During the 2025-26 season, his season-highs are as follows: shots (eight), goals (three), assists (three), blocks (two), penalty minutes (two) and plus/minus (3).
It’s very possible that the Avalanche might have something in DiMarsico, but as you know, development does take some time.
It’s not every day that a player comes straight out of college as an undrafted player and makes a big impact. Nothing is guaranteed in the world of sports, but it would be cool to see him defy the odds. The Avalanche have several young players on their AHL affiliate team, the Colorado Eagles, who I’m looking forward to watching to see if they some day make an impact in the NHL.
The Avalanche now have another potential star on its AHL affiliate team
Nikita Prishchepov is one of those players. He played in 10 games with the Avalanche in 2024-25. While he didn’t record a goal or an assist, he was all over the puck and made some solid plays with it.
Maybe we will see DiMarsico do something similar in the future, but for now, he’ll spend some time in the AHL for the 2025-26 season. I expect him to start out on the fourth line, but we’ll see what the Eagles decide to do.
DiMarsico might be a guy we hear plenty about in the coming years.
