The Colorado Avalanche square off against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday in the early evening. Colorado is trying to get to 2-1 on their long road trip, after defeating the Buffalo Sabres 5-4 on Tuesday and then falling to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday 5-3. We just got some great news on Saturday morning, as one of the team’s key offensive pieces is set to return to the lineup.

Ross Colton has been out since late-October as he suffered a broken foot against the Chicago Blackhawks. He started off the season on a very high note, scoring eight goals and assisting on one goal in 10 games. Due to injuries to the team, head coach Jared Bednar decided to switch some lines up to try and get more productivity from more players, and Colton found himself with Nathan MacKinnon. He excelled.

Colton had a two-goal night against the San Jose Sharks on October 20th, including one on a power-play.

It’s no secret that the Colorado Avalanche need to have more shots on net some nights. Against the Hurricanes, they had 19 shots on goal for the entire game. Colton’s presence should help open up more opportunities to get the puck on the Red Wings on Saturday.

Detroit will have Ville Husso in goal, per reports. Husso is 0-3-0-2 this season, and the Red Wings are a below .500 team. This should be a perfect opportunity for Colton to get his feet back under him and make a big impact for a team that is still trying to find answers. Needless to say, the Avalanche’s goaltending has been pretty bad this year. It might just have to be up to Colton and Co. to shake things up on the offensive end and produce a lot more than they have as of late.

If/when that happens, hopefully it won’t matter who is in net.
