If you are a Colorado Avalanche fan looking for nostalgia, look no further than the Nordiques jersey reveal that was published on social media on Tuesday morning.
The team, after many teases of the sweater reveal recently, have finally published pictures and a video on social media of some of their current players wearing the throwback jersey ahead of their on-ice in-game reveal, which will take place on Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Carolina will also be wearing a throwback uniform.

On the surface, These jerseys look pretty nice. I could get onboard with seeing them around more often, as I couldn’t see them break these out in Quebec when they were a team there. If you’re a fan of a lot of blue and the igloo-shaped logo with a hockey stick and puck on the jersey, these are meant for you.
For the younger audience, it’s a cool throwback because they didn’t get a chance to watch the old Quebec Nordiques. You may still like the Avalanche jersey more, but it’s cool to have a semi-break from them to a throwback.
The Avalanche want to get as much out of the throwback jerseys as possible. What does that mean, exactly? Sales. One of the bigger points of this whole thing is that they would want to make money if they are bringing the jerseys back to stores, which is obviously their objective. Why change anything if the old jerseys did the trick and were a big hit? There’d be no sense in creating a whole new jersey that could be hit or miss.
The Avalanche are scheduled to wear their throwbacks jerseys seven time this season:
Avs scheduled to wear the throwbacks twice against Carolina. At home AND on the road.

Won’t lie, that fuels the theories that we could get a Whalers/Nordiques night… https://t.co/hxhj1JljU3
Even still, the Avalanche got it wrong with the jersey reveal…
I know it’s a controversial take, as I mentioned about the older audience, but also the younger audience who didn’t see the Nordiques play. However, some people might think that this
When I saw the post showing the current Avalanche players wearing the jersey, my initial thought was, “So, they’re the exact same as the Nordiques old jersey?” I don’t believe there is any difference here, and if there is, it’s subtle. This is where the Avalanche dropped the ball.
They missed out on an opportunity to add even a little sprinkle of a difference to perhaps make the jersey pop a little bit more. I think that somehow combining the Avalanche logo with the Nordiques logo would have been cool. How about the swirl of wind on the Avs’ logo combined with the entire Nordiques’ logo?
They also maybe could have incorporated the yeti foot in some way, though I understand the pushback on that, given that that would have made sense when they still used it.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on it, Avs Faithful! What do you think? Do you like, love, or hate them?
