Avalanche goaltender Scott Wedgewood got the start on Tuesday night vs the Canucks, but was unable to finish the game after suffering an injury, but it might not be too serious.

The Colorado Avalanche came away with yet another victory on Tuesday night, this time at the expense of the Vancouver Canucks, who the home team defeated 3-1. The game included two goals from Nathan MacKinnon and one from Brock Nelson, following the opening goal by Vancouver’s Linus Karlsson.

In the second period, Wedgewood left the game and went into the locker room, presumably with the team’s head trainer. He would later be ruled out for the remainder of the game with an upper-body injury, which head coach Jared Bednar confirmed it to be a back injury. However, Bednar also confirmed that it likely isn’t too serious and that the decision to remove him from the game was precautionary.

If Wedgewood cannot suit up at some point, I’d assume that the team would bring up Trent Miner, who has played in two games for the Avs this season because of Blackwood’s offseason surgery and in-season recovery. However, I think Blackwood would get all of the starts, unless something chaotic happens.

The good news is that Wedgewood is going to travel with the team on the upcoming road trip.

What’s next on the Avalanche’s schedule?

The Avs have played at Ball Arena for their last two games, but the short homecoming is followed by a four-game away slate. The first one is on Thursday against the New York Islanders, where Brock Nelson makes his return against a team he knows quite well. The following game is on Saturday against the Rangers at 10:30 AM MT. Avs fans in Colorado have to get up early for that one, and I’m sure they will be ready to go.

The game after that is on Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers at 11 AM MT. Finally, to end the away slate, Colorado heads to Nashville to play the Predators at 7:30 pm MT.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: No games in the NHL should be taken lightly. The Avalanche are on an incredibly hot streak right now, and while it’s not over until it’s over, they have to continue to play their best hockey and make sure that the target remains on their backs. That’s when you’ll see the best hockey from this team. They’re red hot right now, and we want it to stay that way.
