Well, we asked for some action by the Colorado Avalanche, and we’ve finally got it. The team has traded center Jack Drury to the Nashville Predators.
The exact details are as follows:
To Colorado: Fedorov Svechkov and Zachary L’Heureux
To Nashville: Jack Drury, a 2029 third-round pick, and prospect Chase Bradley.
Svechkov is a 23-year-old center who has appeared in 122 NHL games with the Predators over the span of two seasons. He has 12 goals and 22 assists in that time while also splitting time in the AHL.
L’Heureux is a left wing who the Predators took 27th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft. He has nine goals and 11 assists in 87 career NHL games. He really stepped up his game in the AHL this past season, playing in 30 games and recording 14 goals and 14 assists, almost a point per game.
Svechkov comes to the Avalanche with a cap hit of $1.25 million, while L’Heureux has a cap hit of $875k. Going out the door is Drury’s $1,725,000. Colorado now has $4,854,159 in cap space.
The move of Drury is pretty surprising to me, as he was part of some of the best center depth in all of the NHL. While he is a restricted free agent, I thought the Avalanche would for sure like to bring him back. I guess anything can happen in the world of sports. Head coach Jared Bednar frequently praised Drury’s line throughout his time as an Avalanche.
The Avalanche will probably still look to make some cap-friendly moves over the next couple of days as we inch closer to the 2026 NHL Draft. I would probably be on the edge of my seat if I were Avalanche fans. Things could happen fast.
The loss of Bradley is a minor one, as he’s primarily an AHL addition. The Avalanche moving off of another draft pick could have Avalanche fans frowning, but 2029 is really a long time from now in terms of sports. A lot can and will happen between now and then.
