The Colorado Avalanche are now looking at yet another injury concern, this time involving Josh Manson

The Avs blueliner left Wednesday night’s game against the New Jersey Devils in the first period after taking an awkward fall along the boards. He needed help getting down the tunnel.

Unsurprisingly, the Avalanche are calling it a lower-body injury. By the looks of the situation, it figures to be an ankle injury. However, the severity of the injury itself is too soon to know.

The hope here is that Manson’s early departure is nothing more than a precautionary measure. But if the situation leads to a prolonged absence, it will add to the number of wounded warriors that Colorado has lost this season.

Now, it’s worth pointing out that Nic Roy returned to the lineup on Wednesday night, but Zachary L’Heureux remains out of the lineup.

Manson’s absence will likely lead to Noah Juulsen filling in the third pair alongside Brent Burns. For now, the Avs sucked up Manson’s loss by rolling with five defensemen for most of the night.

Avalanche tightened up defensively against Devils

As for the action on the ice, the Avalanche tightened up their defensive game. Colorado did not give New Jersey anything to work with. In fact, the only goal that the Devils managed was a freak goal that caromed off Cale Makar’s skate and right between MacKenzie Blackwood’s legs.

It was the fourth shorthanded goal surrendered by Colorado this season. Even if the play started with a botched pass in the offensive zone during a power play, everyone gets a pass on the goal, given how weird it worked out.

Anyhow, the Avalanche played a much better game compared to their no-show against the Nashville Predators on Sunday night. The win was a most welcome one and allows the club to have some breathing room moving forward.

The only question mark now is Manson. The club will likely deliver an update on Thursday, with Daily Faceoff listing the veteran blueliner as day-to-day. So, the early prognosis doesn’t seem to be dire.

Let’s hope that it’s nothing more than one of those things that just require a couple of days off to get better. Otherwise, the organization may be looking to call someone up from the AHL to fill in as the seventh defenseman for the short term.

The Avalanche will be back on the ice on Saturday night against the Calgary Flames. So, there will be a few days for Manson to recover and potentially get back in the lineup.
