3 trade packages Colorado Avalanche could look for in Martin Necas trade

Rumors are that Martin Necas isn't quite satisfied so far in Denver. If the front office decides to cut and run, what can or should they expect in return?

Colorado receives Jordan Kyrou and Nathan Walker for Martin Necas and Miles Wood

This is a wild idea, considering two division rivals trading major players is something most teams steer away from. But Jordan Kyrou is being shopped by St. Louis because his no full no trade clause kicks in on July 1st. The Avs could put together a package that could land him. Kyrou's contract is a bit richer at $8.125m, but it's another deal with term as he's under contract for six more years through to 2031. Kyrou's scoring touch would be a welcome addition to an Avalanche forward group that has more playmakers than scorers. And then of course, there's the MacKinnon effect.

Kyrou has consistently put up 65+ points and 25+ goals over the last four years. Prior to this season, Necas had only topped 65 points once and 25 goals once. Necas benefitted from playing with MacKinnon, but Kyrou has proven to be a driving force on his own as one of St. Louis's star players.

Nathan Walker is a solid replacement for Miles Wood and much, much cheaper. Walker provides quality fourth line play and would slot in nicely on the fourth line in place of Logan O'Connor while he's out on LTIR. This deal doesn't actually save any money for the Avalanche, but it only moves them up by $100k, so it's ultimately a wash in terms of money.

I think Colorado improves on Necas with Kyrou and sheds the awful Miles Wood contract in one fell swoop. This would be a solid move. While not quite as safe as Bryan Rust, because he's more expensive, the term and the talent are too good to pass up if they can swing it.
