3 Colorado Avalanche players to watch in 2025
Valeri Nichushkin
To be honest, I wasn’t sure what the Avs would be getting when Val Nichushkin returned to the ice. My expectations were modest as there’s no telling how long it could take a player to get back into shape after a long layoff.
But Nichushkin has exceeded expectations thus far. Since returning in mid-November, Nichushkin has registered 11 goals and 16 points in 19 games. Moreover, he’s provided the solid top-six winger the club desperately needed at the start of the season.
Moving forward, it looks as if Nichushkin has not missed a beat. He’s rounded into mid-season form and seems to be ready for the long haul. Again, barring any serious injury, Nichushkin should be a highly dangerous weapon for coach Jared Bednar.
His presence on the top line with Nathan MacKinnon and Arturri Lehkonen is a good way of providing support and flexibility within the top six. Once Jonathan Drouin returns, Nichushkin and Drouin could become a one-two combo other teams will have nightmares playing against.
As a bold prediction, I foresee Nichushkin eclipsing 30 goals, perhaps getting close to 40, while continuing his resurgent performance. He could become a nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy once the season is said and done.
