Colorado Avalanche D Cale Makar adds another milestone
The Colorado Avalanche are currently facing off against the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night. Through two periods, Colorado leads 2-1 and one of the players who was involved in one of those goals was Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar.
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Cale Makar has reached a milestone.
How could this be? Doesn’t he hold pretty much every record possible? Well, he’s on his way (you just never know!).
Makar now holds the record for the fastest defenseman to reach 250 points during his career. The record was previously owned by Hall of Famer Bobby Orr. There should not be any Colorado Avalanche fans who are surprised by this achievement. Makar is just an incredible talent and the best defenseman of this generation.
The amazing thing is that Makar is only 24 years old. All things going well, he is well on his way to a Hall of Fame-worthy career at this point. He’s already got a Stanley Cup. He earned the James Norris Memorial Trophy and the Conn Smythe Trophy.
Nobody’s going to necessarily crown anyone to the Hall of Fame in their mid-20s, but as far as defensemen go, Makar is the best of the best and he’ll continue to be the best until someone else comes along and blows the minds of hockey fans everywhere.
The Colorado Avalanche did have a down year in 2022-23, but their championship window has not closed. In fact, it should remain open for quite some time. In the meantime and for the rest of his career, Makar is going to continue to climb the leaderboards and at some point, he could end up making it to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
I’m very excited to see how many points Makar ends up with by the end of the 2023-24 season. More importantly, will his efforts help lead the Avalanche into the playoffs?
