The Colorado haven’t started their season yet. But we have some bright Christmas carols to wish on them for when they do start.

We’re going to see some Colorado Avalanche hockey and, frankly, that’s the Christmas sports wish most of us wished for. They’ll report to training camp January 3 and start playing January 13.

And, as Nathan MacKinnon pointed out, they’re the favorites to win or whatever.

In other words, I think we’re going to be seeing some excellent Avs hockey. So, in honor of the day, I have some Christmas carols to share for the team.

Last Christmas

“Last Christmas I gave you my heart,
But the very next day you gave it away.
“Merry Christmas” I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying “I love you”, I meant it
Now I know what a fool I’ve been
But if you kissed me now, I know you’d fool me again.”

Just like any sports fan, I’ve had my shares of ups and downs with the team. We all know I thought I could give them up after Patrick Roy resigned from the team. However, the colors of burgundy and blue are too dear to me.

So, just like the song says, they kissed me now, and I went running back to the team.

Santa Baby

Santa baby, just slip a Hart Trophy under the tree, for me.

Nate’s been an awful good boy,

So hurry down the chimney tonight.

Santa baby, a division title too, the West.

The Avs have waited a long time, my dear.

So hurry down the chimney tonight.

Think of all the fun they missed

Think of all the opponents they beat.

This year, they can repeat the same feat,

If you check off their Christmas list.

Ok, ok. The sentiment is there, though.

Do They Know It’s Christmas?

Many of the players are already in Denver. However, most of them are taking this late-start year as an opportunity to spend Christmas at home with their families. For Nathan MacKinnon, for example, that means he’s still at his home in Nova Scotia.

Players normally only get three days off at Christmas. Most of them don’t bother returning to their hometowns. But this year, they probably know it’s Christmas better than ever.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

More from Mile High Sticking

Christmas often marks an important point in the season. Teams who are in a playoff position when the NHL takes its Christmas break are usually the ones who make it into the playoffs come March.

Well, the season hasn’t begun yet. All teams are in a playoff position, or none are depending on your perspective.

However, at this most wonderful time of the year, the Colorado Avalanche are the favorites to not only make the playoffs but actually win it all. That’s a good position to be in, even in the truncated season.

All I Want for Christmas is You

We’re all very disappointed that the Colorado Avalanche aren’t allowing fans into the stands, at least to begin the season. Oh, and don’t forget, the Pepsi Center has been rechristened to Ball Arena.

Does that really matter, though? I don’t feel it does. All I want for Christmas — and for the new year — is the Avs. And lots of Avs wins. And play deep into the summer. And a Stanley Cup.
