The Colorado Avalanche celebrate and support females in sports!

As the Colorado Avalanche promoted, Wednesday was National Girl and Women in Sports Day. It is always so exciting to see the progression of women. To see any individual have the ability to follow their dreams is a beautiful thing. To have the support makes it all the more positive and encouraging.

It is still a struggle to break into the sports industry as a female. People do not take females seriously when it comes to sports. The Colorado Avalanche supports females in multiple ways and this showed yesterday!

The fact that the Colorado Avalanche are providing young girls a path to follow their passions is incredible. Growing up, if I had mentioned an interest in playing ice hockey, it would have been almost, if not completely impossible. Not only was is socially frowned upon, but my mother would not have known where to take me to experience such a thing as a female.

The Colorado Avalanche have frequently shown their support of females within the sport. They provide a learn to play program for beginners to learn how to play hockey. This is a great way for parents to see if their kids really do enjoy the sport, and girls are definitely welcome!

Even being a female sports fan is interesting. Do I really understand the game? Do I have my own opinions? I get questioned about being a sports fan more than I’d like to admit. Is it like this for any of you out there?

I remember talking about the Colorado Avalanche with some friends. Someone interrupted the conversation and said, “You say you are a fan then name as many of the Colorado Avalanche players as you can.” As if I need to always to defend my stance as a female sports fan.

Something I appreciate about the Colorado Avalanche is that they do not make gender an issue. Everyone is always welcome and supported as if it is a no-brainer. They do not need to declare their stance or play into politics.

Throughout the season they naturally show their support because of who they are as an organization and a team. They show support for female athletes,  fans, and sportscasters. The sports world is opening up to female pro-scouters and coaches the future looks bright!
