Nathan MacKinnon represented the Colorado Avalanche this weekend at the NHL All-Star Game. Here are the social media highlights.

The Colorado Avalanche social media team isn’t letting go of the fact that Cale Makar didn’t get added to the all-star roster. So, to make things a bit more fun, they invited fans to print out their own mini Cale and take him on adventures during the break.

The media team had their own mini Cale who got to travel to St Louis with them.

Nathan MacKinnon is having another excellent season, with these numbers at the halfway point.

He was quick to let everyone know which event he wanted to take part in.

MacKinnon also represented the team at last year’s event but, sadly, was unable to play due to an injury. However, instead of playing, he stepped into the role of coach instead.

It was nice to hear what it’s like getting to spend time with players he’s usually competing against.

The all-star game is always a good chance to catch up with old friends. MacKinnon spent a lot of the weekend with former teammate Ryan O’Reilly.

When he was unable to play last year MacKinnon suggested Kendall Coyne Schofield take his place in the skills competition. Initially she was only there to demonstrate the event before the actual competition. It did wonders to shine the spotlight on women’s hockey, especially when she beat some of the men’s times. This year women’s hockey had an even bigger place at the event, with a special 3 on 3 USA vs Canada women’s game forming part of the weekend.

The Colorado Avalanche social media team do what they can to talk about women’s hockey so it was great to see them reporting on the women’s 3 on 3 game.

Mini Cale got to do some press before MacKinnon took to the stage.

With Cale Makar being one of the front runner to win the Calder Trophy this year (awarded to best rookie) of course mini Cale had to have his photo taken with the trophy.

As MacKinnon geared up to play in the all-star game, the media team took some time to gently make fun of him.

It’s been really nice to see MacKinnon looking so relaxed and happy this weekend. The media team are clearly enjoying it too.

The Central Division, sadly, did not win the title and the media team just has to slip one more little jab in there.

And MacKinnon, in a slightly more polite way, said it was a shame Makar hadn’t made it.

The Colorado Avalanche are now entering their bye week, and will return to the ice on February 1st.
