Colorado Avalanche defensive prospect was out for a month with a lower-body injury. He was impressive in his return.

Colorado Avalanche defensive prospect Conor Timmins has returned to the Colorado Eagles lineup. His first game back was the January 24 game at home against the San Antonio Rampage. He hadn’t played since the December 14 game at home against the San Diego Gulls.

We never get any real news about the Colorado Eagles — not like we do with the Avalanche. However, Timmins was out starting with the December 17 game against the Manitoba Moose with an undisclosed “lower-body injury.”

And, boy, can we breath a sigh of relief. Of course, Timmins missed a full 18 months with a concussion suffered in his final playoff game with his major juniors team, the Soo Greyhounds.

Prior to suffering the lower-body injury, Timmins had been playing very well with the Eagles. In 22 games, the defenseman had three goals and 10 assists for 13 points. He did start the year on the Colorado Avalanche, but he needed to get back into regular game form after missing all that time with the concussion.

It must have been very disappointing to be playing so well with the Eagles only to suffer that slight setback with the LBI. Speaking with Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic, though, Timmins mentioned he felt “less uncertainty” with the latest injury because he knew he’d be back from it — unlike the concussion.

Ok, enough about Timmins’ injuries. He returned to action Friday night against the Rampage. You could forgive the kid if he was a little rusty, especially since he’d been skating with the team only since Wednesday.

Nope. In his first game in a month, Timmins recorded two assists! One of them was a beauty of a pass on Jayson Megna’s goal, the first of the game:

It looks like Timmins is back into his stride.

The Colorado Avalanche have impressive depth for the first time in a long time, especially at defense. We get so caught up talking about our stars Sam Girard and, especially, Cale Makar, not to mention another almost-guaranteed star, Bowen Byran. Yet we shouldn’t forget our hard-working prospect up in Loveland.

Conor Timmins is a kid who’s faced his hard knocks and is overcoming them with aplomb. He’s going to be a terrific addition to the NHL club when he’s ready.
