The Colorado Avalanche have struggled to find their feet this week. We look back at some of the team’s best social media content.
After a promising start to the new year the Colorado Avalanche have since run into difficulty, getting shut out by former goaltender Seymon Varlamov, and then losing to the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The week started well, though, with a healthy 5-2 win against the New Jersey Devils.
It’s always nice when the radio commentary gets a mention on social media. Given that the games are more often than not on in the middle of the night for me, it’s usually easier to listen to them on the radio, and host Conor McGahey comes out with some gems.
While it, sadly, didn’t come to fruition the Avalanche continued their campaign to get Cale Makar added to the All-Star Roster by forging alliances with other teams.
The Great Impression is back and this time it’s “JT Compher” talking about his best friend and former roommate Tyson Jost. These segments are always hilarious.

I love it when the social media team basically turn into one of us. It’s so funny and really makes the account relatable.
No sign of the #BurkySmirk in this game, but there is an excellent pun.
The Avalanche Twitter is really personable, which is another reason I think they do such a great job. They could quite easily have written off these out of focus photos, but instead they made a joke about it. It’s a nice reminder that there’s a person at the other end of the Twitter account.
As the deadline for the All-Star Last Man In drew closer the campaign to vote for Cale was turned up a notch.
And, of course, no campaign would be complete without the captain getting involved.
Whenever a commercial is filmed there are always funny outtakes. The faces in the thumbnail alone are amazing.
As part of the Hockey is for Everyone campaign the Avalanche held a Blind Hockey Clinic. Unfortunately the team’s Hockey is for Everyone ambassador, Colin Wilson, is still injured but Mikko Rantanen and Pavel Francouz were there in his place.
Some interesting facts about Cale.
Well, it’s not quite a smirk but it is still very funny.
It’s so great when the media team captures fun moments like this. It really helps us see the players as people.

A good way to get fans of another team to vote for your guy is to make funny posters like this. I saw more than one Hurricanes fan retweet this because they loved it so much.
And, if all else fails, offer incentives for voting.
Last season we had the Nemo Stare, this season we have the Burky Smirk. Now we also have…whatever this is.
I would like to extend my thanks to the Avalanche social media team for capturing this photo of Vladislav Kamenev in his amazing coat. Totally worth running for.
And the #BurkySmirk is back. I love that the media team is as invested in this as the rest of us.
Sadly Cale Makar lost out on joining the All-Star team but puppies make everything better.
The Colorado Avalanche continue their homestand this week, facing the Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks and St Louis Blues.
