Colorado Avalanche superstar, Nathan MacKinnon earned another 1st Star honor from the NHL. But he doesn’t think people know who he is.

Our Colorado Avalanche superstar, Nathan MacKinnon, is having a stellar season. However, he might not be famous enough for big media outlets.

Between December 30 to January 5, MacKinnon earned eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) in three games played. He shared the NHL lead in points for that week with Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele. However, MacKinnon earned top honors as first star of the week in the NHL.

So far, MacKinnon has 64 points (25 goals, 39 assists). He’s just behind a pair of Oilers — Leon Draisaitl (67 points) and Connor McDavid (69 points). He’s well into the Art Ross Trophy race.

What’s more, his impressive play is getting noticed around the NHL.

You right remember that two years ago he lost the Hart Trophy for team MVP to Taylor Hall. He’s making another run at it this year. In fact, the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association has voted him as most likely to win the Hart at the halfway point of the season.

Well, all of that is great, but maybe not good enough for a major entertainment-news outlet. Apparently MacKinnon isn’t famous enough for TMZ.

According to the man himself, that is.

After the New Jersey game, TMZ was apparently waiting for MacKinnon as he got off the team bus and headed for the hotel. MacKinnon glanced at the reporter as he stepped aside to sign a few autographs.

The reporter congratulated MacKinnon on that night’s win and then asked, “Does the Art Ross [race] give a little more pressure to you?”

Nate smiles and answers, “I don’t think so.” As the reporter tries to ask a follow-up question, MacKinnon adds, “Bro, I’m not famous enough for TMZ.”

Here’s the video:

That’s a pretty cute clip. My favorite part is I’m pretty sure Matt Calvert chirps his “famous” teammate as they enter the hotel.

Now, TMZ did do a little write-up about the incident and MacKinnon. I’m not sure, but they might be getting the Art Ross and the Hart Trophy mixed up. The reporter asks about the Art Ross, but the article mentions MVP, which is Hart.

No matter, MacKinnon is in the running for both.

At the end of the clip, MacKinnon concludes, “Nah, man, no one knows who I am.”

Obviously, in the hockey world, that’s not true. Unfortunately, the reality is that outside of the hockey world, most people probably wouldn’t know who Nathan MacKinnon was.

Reminds me a little of that Trailer Park Boys clip:

Hockey’s just not that popular.

Well, we here in the Colorado Avalanche sure as heck know who Nathan MacKinnon is. He absolutely is our MVP.

And the NHL knows who he is — first star of the week (again) and front-runner for two scoring trophies. Hey, maybe TMZ isn’t cool enough for Nathan MacKinnon.
