Colorado Avalanche Players Make Candy Cane Tasting Video UPDATED

In preparation for the Christmas holiday, some Colorado Avalanche players sampled uniquely flavored candy canes.

The Colorado Avalanche were already getting ready for Christmas a couple days ago. Every year they do something different to get in the festive spirit. They haven’t made an ugly sweater video… yet. But there’s always something.

We already saw our prize rookie, Cale Makar, get into the Christmas spirit all the way back in September, which is when he was tasked with recording “Jingle Bells” for an NHL Christmas video during Media Day:

Well, the Avalanche social media crew had something different in mind. They decided to have the players try some traditional Christmas candy, candy canes. These candy canes are apparently different though. Instead of the traditional peppermint flavor, they come in boutique flavors.

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Matt Calvert were the original players tasked with trying the unusually flavored candy canes.

Now, as you’ll see in the video that’s coming up, the social media crew didn’t just have them wear Santa hats. Rather, they had they wear whole Santa heads on their own heads.

You see right away that the flavors are different than usual. Bellemare and Calvert don’t like the first flavor. However, we discover that it’s one that should be dear to our heart — Cale.

(Our prize rookie should be returning to action after the Christmas break.)

Apparently the filming was taking place at the team hotel. For what to our wondering eyes should appear… Nikita Zadorov:

He even gamely put on the hat. He doesn’t look too excited about trying unusual flavors of candy canes.

In the next set of pictures, we see that Belly… doesn’t seem very impressed with the latest candy cane. He’s making quite the disgusted frown. Calvs looks like he’s taking up smoking in the second picture — could the candy have been tobacco flavored? In the third picture, Zadorov seems to be pondering the life decision that led to his being a candy cane taster:

As you can see, the team hasn’t released the video that goes with this photo shoot yet. I’ll update this post when they do (probably on Christmas Day).
