The Colorado Avalanche are still holding onto their second place Western Conference spot. We look back at some of the team’s social media highlights of the past week.
As the Colorado Avalanche get ready for the holidays, a familar figure wearing red was spotted at the practice facility. No, it’s not Santa.

Nathan MacKinnon, in particular, seemed pleased to see him (even if he did temporarily forget that red jersey means no contact).
Same, Nate.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 15, 2019
Same. #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/mrmd3Sp1Xn
As the team hit the road to take on the St Louis Blues it seems that everyone is now invested in the #BurkySmirk. This is what I love about the media team’s relationship with both the fans and the team as a whole. I tweeted #BurkySmirk as a joke back at the start of the season, the media team picked it up and ran with it, and now the rest of the roster is having fun with it too.

Joonas: “Did Burky smile!?”
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 15, 2019
Yes, Joonas.
Of course he did!#BurkySmirk #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/POCnTj84t8
And when he’s not smirking or scoring goals Andre Burakovsky is doing…whatever this is. The important thing is he’s having fun.
*insert pew pew noises*#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/I6V318StTP

It’s clear that the team are in good spirits, having fun and joking around in the locker room.
Mikko throws tape ball.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 16, 2019
G doesn’t flinch AT ALL.#GoAvsGo https://t.co/d6RbNH6rbk
The media team, after years of calling Nikita Zadorov a menace, have clearly learned a thing or two from him.
We can tweet this because Mikko doesn’t have a Twitter...
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 16, 2019
BUT 🤣🤣🤣 #GoAvsGo https://t.co/NqmfYnSBBM
I do worry that the media team aren’t eating enough given how often they get distracted by snacks.
The snacks have been located.#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/JYKdSqAQOD
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 16, 2019
It’s not often that we see Coach Bednar featured on social media outside of official press conferences, so this feature about him and his ties was a lot of fun.
So many of you have commented on Coach Bednar’s ties...
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 16, 2019
So Kyle Keefe took some tie tying lessons. #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/1kwIYcugiW
Coach Bednar said he ties the Half Windsor Knot about 95% of the time.#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/8lpGKihHVh
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 16, 2019
Okay, the details that make a really, really nice knot can be difficult. #GoAvsGo https://t.co/8vTUNzV9cd
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 16, 2019
Nikita Zadorov back to his menacing ways.
It’s nice to see that Ryan Graves has been drawn into the elaborate warm up routines that some of the players have.
Only *slightly* dramatic...#GoAvsGo https://t.co/xpu6biNNWD
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 17, 2019
Nathan MacKinnon and Andre Burakovsky have formed a friendship which is delightful to see, and now the media team have given them their own special mashup name.
You thought you had a favorite BuraKinnon photoset.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 17, 2019
But you didn’t.
Now you do. #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/Wsc1pW5sFY
It’s important to focus on the little details during a game. I love that the media team posts things like this as well as reporting on what’s happening on the ice.
Curl check.#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/VxCg61I4BR
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 17, 2019
The Avalanche seem to have a few players with curly hair, and the media team likes to show them off.
How to identify Mikko: blonde curls, tongue out, usually smiling...#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/DaPi7kGeRv
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 18, 2019
Belly, taking after Mikko 👀#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/5GzZmZ7VCb
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 18, 2019
The team was back to playing two touch in Chicago, this time without Nikta Zadorov trying to interfere. Burakovsky in the final two again.
Walked out to find a Swede battle going on...#GoAvsGo https://t.co/Xn2LDsxdgm
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 19, 2019
Please also make sure you notice Z trying to flip his water bottle onto the ground.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 19, 2019
Not a smirk but it’s possible Burakovsky has also been taking lessons from Mikko Rantanen.
Okay, Burky...
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 19, 2019
This feels intentional 👀#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/pYoVUw5W3z
During the game in Chicago the NBC commentators kept calling Ryan Graves ‘Adam Graves’. This was the media team’s response. Sometimes you don’t need words.
#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/wAFn7oe8GM
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 19, 2019
It’s nice to see the scratched players still getting involved even when they’re not playing.
Kammy is proud of Frankie and we are, too!#GoAvsGo https://t.co/OztAJomyYs

This week the team held their annual Star Wars night and the graphics team came up with some pretty amazing posters for the occasion.
The Saga Continues#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/ZTgCTJNTH2
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 19, 2019
The Carolina Hurricanes and the Avalanche twitter accounts have stuck up a friendship this year and it’s nice to see that translate into an offline friendship too.
Hey @Canes, we left you a little something since you’ve been so good this year...
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 19, 2019
But we should warn you: they’re kale flavored 🤣❤️
Welcome to Colorado! #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/9TwFGrLrQY
Burakovky’s smile was missing ahead of the game against Carolina and the media team were clearly not happy and looking for someone to blame.
WHO BROKE BURKY!?
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 20, 2019
LANDY??
😡😡😡 #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/A6W9dvvdS7
It’s definitely not Star Wars night until you celebrate Erik Johnson’s return with a Star Wars pun.
REVENGE OF THE SIX!?#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/htlJZJNxN7
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 20, 2019
It’s always fun seeing Gabriel Landeskog do his puck toss during warm ups. It’s even more fun when he gets excited about it.
The Captain makes the catch and #PumpedLandy pops out!#GoAvsGo https://t.co/6U4ptFv7Xu
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 20, 2019
Burakovsky’s smile was back so the media team were happy once again. Probably a good thing because in a media team vs Landeskog fight my money would have to be on Landy.
We got a #BurkySmirk, so we didn’t have to drop the gloves.#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/L2ipxdRiEb
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 22, 2019
The name is definitely sticking.
BuraKinnon ❤️#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/KFTSIqRr0z
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 22, 2019
Gabriel Landeskog is known to get a bit scrappy at times. If gifs like this are the result I am definitely not going to complain.
LET’S GO, LANDY#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/koUeQbo4B6

It’s been a while since I talked about airport suits but this photo of Erik Johnson definitely needs a mention. The sunglasses tucked into the open buttons is definitely a good look for him.

— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 22, 2019
On the other end of the spectrum Gabriel Landeskog opted to dress like a Canadian lumberjack and, honestly, that’s a good look for him too.

— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 22, 2019
And, of course, the smile.
It’s not Christmas without some silly games.
Belly and Calvy’s task: to identify the (silly!) flavors of these candy canes.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 23, 2019
You just might recognize the first one... #GoAvsGo https://t.co/QWuWr6FfjC
Of course Nikita Zadorov wanted to be involved.
Then Z came down and wanted to join in on the fun.

Good thing we had an extra hat!#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/3PHmKKETwk
The Avalanche face the Golden Knights tonight before having a small break for the holidays. They’ll be back on Friday to face the Minnesota Wild at home in Denver.
