The Colorado Avalanche’s affiliate team, the Colorado Eagles, brought awareness to both Colorado Gives Day and the Larimer Humane Society with a visit to the animal shelter.

The Colorado Avalanche’s AHL affiliate, the Eagles, visited the Larimer Humane Society in Loveland for Colorado Gives Day. As the name suggests, Colorado Gives Day is a statewide movement to increase charity via online donations.

Well, the Eagles took it several steps farther by actually going for a visit to the animal shelter and promoting the visit on their Twitter.

The Larimer Humane Society has been a non-profit staple in Loveland for 50 years. They have dogs, cats, and other animals up for adoption. In fact, the Eagles visited some of those “other animals” in the form of rabbits:

In 2019, the Larimer Humane Society has reunited 1,587 pets with their families, placed 2,824 pets in homes, and provided 126,460 meals for pets waiting to be re-homed.

Speaking of meals, one of the first tasks was for the Eagles attendees to make dog biscuits for the dogs in the shelter.

As you can see from the recipe, the treats consist of pumpkin puree, peanut butter, oats, egg, and brown rice flower. In case you didn’t know, pumpkin is good for both dog’s and cat’s digestive systems.

Forward Erik Condra brought his kids along for the event:

I have to say, I think it’s great to see players sharing the philanthropic spirit and passing it on to their children.

Jayson Megna, who was recently with the Colorado Avalanche thanks to all the injuries, also joined in on the event:

Hey, look who it is — Avs savior goalie Antoine Bibeau:

Yeah, he’s on crutches. I guess he was only allowed to be healthy for that one day, when the NHL team needed him.

The Eagles visit apparently accomplished what it set out to do. It encouraged fans of the team to donate to the animal shelter during Colorado Gives Day. So, the team wrote some than you cards to some of the donors:

Ok, what’s the point of doing a post about giving back to an animal shelter if you aren’t going to show some gratuitous pet pictures? So, here’s a whole bunch of puppy pictures:

Apparently Baby Yoda is a thing now, and we’ve got one at the Larimer Humane Society:

His sister is named Padmé, and Eagles captain/sometimes Colorado Avalanche defenseman Mark Alt seems very taken with her:

Padmé is on the loose! Because you can’t hold a queen back:

The Colorado Eagles also named some of the pets up for adoption. I’m not going to say some of the names were very original. We’ve got Cinnamon for an orange cat and Shadow for a black cat:

That said, we did get Heisenberg for another cat and Chester, Tony, and Chucky for some hamsters.

Don’t let a name prevent you from adopting a house lovey. If you have the space in your life, any pet will augment that life. Besides the Larimer Humane Society, we have many animal shelters in every town and city across North America.

The Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Eagles enjoy giving back to their communities. If you didn’t make a donation on Colorado Gives Day, consider making a donation anyway — they don’t actually have sell-by dates.
