Colorado Avalanche: Cale Makar Is Far From Boring
Did you know Colorado Avalanche’s Cale Makar considers himself boring? There’s definitely nothing boring about the team’s (new) favorite child.
Cale Makar: young, soft, talented, and… boring? That last word is not part of Colorado Avalanche’s fans vocabulary when talking about Cale Makar, but it is part of his when describing himself. Clearly, he hasn’t watched himself play (somebody please show him a highlights video), nor has he heard himself talk in interviews because he is the opposite of boring.
Speaking to SportsNet’s After Hours, Cale Makar opened up about his experience in the NHL, what he wanted to be when he was younger, and reiterated that he considers himself to be “boring” – but there’s absolutely nothing boring about, as Scott Oake said, Cale Makar’s “Excellent Adventure” (no time-traveling involved in this, though) (or not that we know of).

After Hours took viewers (and Cale) on a trip through time (ok, there was some sort of time-traveling involved) to visit the Colorado Avalanche defenseman when he was little. Turns out that young Cale wanted to be an engineer, but he also wanted to play for the NHL. He has always been ambitious, as you can see, and yet he is still a very humble guy. Speaking of ambition, Cale shared he wants to finish his degree, although right now that might not be possible due to his commitment with the team, but it’s definitely part of his plans.
Cale was also asked about his now famous (at least among hockey fans) response to what his biggest impulse purchase has been: a slurpee. He explained that he understands the question as something that was bought without planning, and so one day after practice, he felt like having a Slurpee and he got it. “Treat yourself”, they say. And you know what? He totally deserved it.
Oake then brought up that Cale considers himself to be “boring”, and asked him what is the most outrageous thing he has done. Cale replied he couldn’t even think of something and struggled to answer (without really answering. You know. Hockey players), which was honestly adorable and only showed even more how humble and down to earth he is. Whatever Cale is basing on to say he’s boring, anyone that has been watching the Colorado Avalanche this season knows that there’s absolutely nothing boring about 28 points in 28 games played.
Cale Makar’s amazing life and career will only continue to get more interesting and fun, as will the Colorado Avalanche’s season. The future is bright and the Cale Makar era is only getting started.
