Colorado Avalanche forward Tyson Jost, along with some of his teammates, will be representing their countries at IIHF Worlds in Slovakia.

Colorado Avalanche center Tyson Jost will be representing Canada in the 2019 IIHF Worlds Championship being held May 10 to 26 in Slovakia.

Official confirmation:

The Colorado Avalanche’s season ended just three days ago in an emotional Game 7 in San Jose. Yet it sounds like Jost is already headed to Kosice, Slovakia:

As TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger points out, that is, indeed, impressive.

That said, the 21-year-old Jost has been representing Canada since 2014, when he played on the Canada White U17 team. He has a gold medal and a silver medal from a total of five tournaments so far:

  • 2014, Canada White U17, 5th place
  • 2015, Canada IH18, gold medal
  • 2016, Canada WJC18, 4th place
  • 2017, Canada WJC, silver medal
  • 2018, Canada WC, 4th place

In total, Jost has played 32 games for Canada at IIHF Worlds, recording 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points. His best season was 2016 when he played seven games and recorded 15 points (6 goals, 9 assists).

As noted, Jost is coming off a Colorado Avalanche season that saw the team beat the top-seeded Western Conference Calgary Flames and take the higher-seeded San Jose Sharks to seven games in the second round.

Jost is still getting his NHL legs, but he had a career year with 28 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 70 games. He also had a red-hot ending to his post-season, having scored a goal each in the final three games of the series.

Meanwhile, the Colorado Avalanche’s new number-one goalie, Philipp Grubauer, will be playing for his native Germany at the championship:

Grubauer finished the regular season having started 33 games and playing 37 total. He recorded an 18-9-5 record with a .917 save percentage and 2.64 goals against average. He played all 12 playoff games, recording a 7-5 record with a .925 save percentage and 2.30 GAA. Grubauer has played 23 games for Germany.

Defenseman Nikita Zadorov is also supposed to report to Slovakia to represent Russia at IIHF Worlds. In the regular season, Zadorov had 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 points. At IIHF Worlds, Zadorov has played 22 games and earned a gold (2012) and a bronze (2014).

Meanwhile, Colorado Eagles, and Avs prospect, goalie Pavel Francouz will be playing for the Czech Republic. The 28-year-old has been representing his country since 2008, having played 24 games. His record is 16-5.
