The Colorado Avalanche have advanced to Round Two of the playoffs. We look back at some of their best social media posts of the past week.

As the Colorado Avalanche readied themselves to take on the Calgary Flames at home, newly signed defenseman Cale Makar joined the team at practice. Of course the Avs social media team was straight in there with the joke everyone has been making.

And 24 hours after signing his contract he made his NHL debut. In the playoffs. Against the team he supported when he was a kid. It’s like a story come to life.

Alexander Kerfoot was spotted wearing a new suit for the first game and it looks good!

To continue his amazing story not only did Cale Makar dive straight into a playoffs game but he also scored a goal in his very first game.

Long Beach native Matt Nieto scored his second short-handed goal of this series. Everyone on the team has really stepped up their game during the playoffs but I’ve been particularly impressed with the way Nieto’s game has moved into a whole new level.

Following the elimination of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning the Avalanche continued their social media mission to be friendly and welcoming to all.

After Cale Makar’s first NHL game and goal an addition was made to Larimer Square in Denver. I can only imagine how surreal it must be to go from playing college hockey to having your name and number on display for everyone to see in the space of just a few days.

J.T. Compher threw a tape ball at Cale Makar while he was giving an interview on his first day and, when the team went on to win the game, throwing tape balls has now been declared good luck.

When you’re on a winning streak you don’t want to make many changes to how you’re playing. Which means the media team has to come up with creative ways to say the same thing when it comes to keys to winning the game.

During the home playoff games the team provides everyone with white pom poms (so it looks like snow when they’re waved). The staff at Pepsi Center clearly have setting this up down to an art form.

Following another win at home Nathan MacKinnon has clearly been dominating the playoffs. His numbers are off the chart.

The mood was light during practice ahead of the potentially series winning game in Calgary. As per usual Nikita Zadorov was in the middle of the hijinks.

It’s nice to see that the media team are as superstitious as everyone else during the playoffs. Now that it’s been determined that J.T. Compher throwing a tape ball at one of his teammates is lucky, he is being made to do it before every game.

Clearly it worked because the team won the series with a decisive 5-1 win in Calgary.

In a fun little moment goaltender Philipp Grubauer joined in the fist bump line after Mikko Rantanen scored one of his two goals of the evening.

And, of course, with the series win came very important news. There would be no Game Six on Sunday night.

The Avalanche now have a few days of much earned rest while they await the winner of the San Jose Sharks and Vegas Golden Knights series. Whoever wins will be their opponent in Round Two.

We’ll be back next week with more postseason social media highlights.
