Colorado Avalanche forward Colin Wilson amazed everyone with his goal against the Edmonton Oilers.

Colin Wilson provides a steady veteran presence for the Colorado Avalanche, usually being placed on a line with younger players such as Alexander Kerfoot, Tyson Jost or J.T. Compher.

As the team makes its final push for the playoffs Wilson has really stepped up his game with 6 of his season total 26 points having been obtained in the last two weeks.

Although the Avalanche made it to the first round of the playoffs last season, Wilson is one of the few players on the roster who has seen extensive action in the postseason. Currently he has played 53 career playoff games and is clearly getting ready for more.

The game against the Edmonton Oilers was an important one. The Avalanche and Arizona Coyotes are currently battling for the 2nd Wild Card spot in the Western Conference and with the number of remaining games dwindling every point matters. They needed to win this in order to solidify their position.

At the end of the first period things were looking bleak with the Avalanche being down 2-0, but the team surged into a comeback in the second. Nathan MacKinnon kicked off the scoring with a power play goal and once the goals started they didn’t stop.

The goal that stands out, however, is the one that was scored by Wilson towards the end of the period. Wilson enters the zone on the rush, with Connor McDavid close on his heels. McDavid is known to be one of the fastest skaters currently in the NHL which makes what happens next even more incredible. Wilson stops suddenly and spins to his left, which fakes out McDavid. Wilson then takes the time to reposition the puck on his stick before firing off a backhand that sails past the Oilers goalie and into the net.

Avalanche fans, unsurprisingly, were pretty excited by this beauty of a goal.

Wilson himself was predictably modest when asked about the goal during his intermission interview.

The Avalanche now need to take one point in their next two games to clinch their spot in the playoffs, and from what we’ve seen Colin Wilson is ready. Whatever happens this goal is definitely going to feature in highlight reels for years to come.
