Three Colorado Avalanche players will be taking part in the 2019 NHL All Star weekend in San Jose. Because of the locale, the festivities have a high-tech slant.
Three Colorado Avalanche players have landed in San Jose to enjoy the 2019 All Star weekend. Ok, at the time of writing, only two players had actually arrived in California.
Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog flew to San Jose yesterday. They walked the catwalk at the introductory Media Day yesterday and participated in the interviews:
I really like how both players talk about what a great honor it is to be at the All Star weekend and how they especially enjoy being there with their linemates.
Unfortunately, the Three Musketeers were one short. Our superstar, and the Central Division captain, Nathan MacKinnon didn’t fly out at the same time. It was initially reported that MacKinnon was undergoing an MRI on his foot after blocking a shot in the game against the (hated) Minnesota Wild.
However, Pierre LeBrun later reported that MacKinnon would participate in the All Star festivities even if he didn’t participate in the game. The rationale was that way he wouldn’t have to miss an Avalanche game in penalty. Avs insider Adrian Dater also reported that MacKinnon’s foot was tweaked and didn’t require an MRI at all.
The Avalanche Twitter confirmed that MacKinnon would be in San Jose today. So, we can breathe a sigh of relief about that thing (a Nate injury) that’s never, ever allowed to happen.
Anyway, the All Star festivities take on the flavor of the city where they take place in. Since this year’s All Star weekend is in San Jose, where Silicon Valley is located, the weekend has taken on a techie theme.
For example, here are the three Colorado Avalanche representatives paying homage to Steve Jobs:
I’m not going to admit to how long it took me to realize that’s what they were doing with this picture.
Here’s NBC showcasing our superstar as a video game player:
Man, he’s so good. (In case Flyers fans are still howing “What about Girouuuuuuuuux?” here he is.)
Apparently Netflix is #HiTechHockey now, but props for using our Avs stars:
I mean, Netflix is going to start making us be more honest about with whom we share out account, which I guess takes some tech savvy.
I’m going to be honest — I have no idea what this is referencing:
Also being honest, I’m more excited for this year’s All Star festivities than I have been some years. I know in some circles it’s not cool to care about the All Star weekend. I like it, though, as a chance to see the best each team has to offer — and I do want each team represented as there are good players even on bad teams.
Anyway, here is the practical information for watching the All Star offerings:
