The Colorado Avalanche held their annual Meet the Team party for season ticket holders. This fun event took place on October 25.
The Colorado Avalanche did their “meet the team” party this season at Pepsi Center. The meet the team party is for season tickets holders to get a chance to meet and mingle with the players and attending staff. This was my first year attending.
This year was interesting due to the fact they also made it Halloween themed. I dressed up with my friends like the Hanson Brothers:
They had a costume contest but sadly not many fans dresses up. Nor did the players. Regardless it was still fun.
In case you don’t remember, the Hanson brothers were characters in the 1977 movie Slap Shot. While the movie characters were fictional, they were based on the Carlson brothers, actual hockey players. They’re known for their silly hi-jinks — and their thick nerd glasses.
And part of what they’re known for is the fist of power up by the shoulder. Apparently Nathan MacKinnon didn’t quite get that:
Tyson Jost was into it, though! Maybe Jared Bednar can also give him some pointers:
The Stanley Cup was also in attendance — rinkside reporter Lauren Gardner seems amazed:
They did a couple autograph sessions, but you only got to go to one. They had a total of four sessions. Then they had other events going on as well, including playing cornhole, a locker room tour, pictures with players, and mini rink (16 and under).
I played cornhole a couple times, the first was against EJ and the second Nemo was my partner. They blow everyone out of the water, I couldn’t even hit the cornhole board most the time.
They also had members from Altitudes broadcast team and the in-game entertainment team. My friends and I got some fun pictures with Marc Moser, Lauren, Mark Rycroft, and Peter McNab. I was so happy everyone caught Hanson fever:
All in all I think this was a good event if you wanted to do more then just have players sign autographs or take pictures.
The best part after they introduced the team. Captain Gabriel Landeskog gave a speech. There is apparently a tradition where he puts a young guy on the spot. This year it was Samuel Girard and he killed it:
That’s right — it’s our tiny defenseman showing he has a huge voice.
Props to the Colorado Avalanche. The Meet the Team event was amazing!
